“You have an intriguing mind, eirineftís,” the general remarked after the long stretch of silence had extended past being considered polite. His gentle voice stirred Louis from his near state of slumber, belatedly he realised he had been falling asleep against the general. “You preach of peace, yet your father sends you to learn the ways of war.”
Had he the time, Louis would have drowned in shame for the thoughts muddling within his head; of the warmth he so readily had leaned into, of the impulses he had nearly surrendered to. But, evidently he had no time, he needed to defend his ideologies.
“Learning does not guarantee implying. I’m learning to not tarnish my father’s glory, and gaining a skill never hurt anyone.”

Chapters: 5/?
I am shy so anon. Cad Bane as teacher/ father figure for orphan which he found during one of the hunts. The kid uses a blaster, he can fix anything (unlike Todo) headcanos i think.
Headcanons it is!
Warning: None. Cad Bane finds it in his heart to mentor an orphan he finds on the streets of Jedha City.
Cad Bane found you while on the hunt for a bounty in Jedha City, a place considered Holy where pilgrims gathered on the steps of the Temple of the Kyber, though you were no pilgrim - you were young; alone; an orphan - and while the bounty hunter was known for his cold exterior and his even colder blood, that didn’t mean his heart was the same temperature. You had begged for money; he thought he could do one better. He had failed Boba; used him for a means to an end. Perhaps he could make up for that; redeem himself; absolve at least one of his many sins – it would be a start.
He had taken you aboard his ship despite the protests of his little droid. He hadn’t the faintest idea what he planned to accomplish by harboring an orphan. He had shut him up with a few, harsh words. You were surprised he had defended you so readily - you barely knew each other.
He decided the best thing he could do was teach you a skillset; his. A way to make ends meet, earn credits, and feed your hungry mouth.
Bane was kind enough to allow you to hold one of his LL-30’s after several warnings and reminders. He set you up on some remote, Outer Rim planet for what he aptly referred to as “target practice.”
Come to find, he didn’t need to. You were already a great shot! He was surprised at first, but quickly encouraged you, fine-tuned your shooting stance, gave you tips on how to harness the intricate dance of hand-eye coordination.
You went to Nal Hutta together one day; he spoiled you – bought you a suit of armor and a blaster from Pablo, a reluctant Rodian, though you were appreciative for your new duds and Cad tipped his hat to you, thinking you looked sharp, but not as sharp as him.
You were young and inexperienced, so he took up a rookie job or two only for your benefit. A couple of bail jumpers; people who owed a Hutt what Cad Bane considered petty credits. Not worth the effort normally, but he wanted to ease you in, one foot at a time.
He’d follow you, trail along behind. Gave you pointers when you asked for them. His presence was empowering, all the while the Duros idly grinding his fangs along a toothpick, nonchalant. He’d done this a million times.
One day, he said “Do it ya’ self.” and disappeared from sight. Your heart was pumping as you pursued a wanted criminal down the streets of Coronet City.
Cad had ordered Todo 360 to keep an eye out at a distance, unknown by you. He had managed to park himself ahead, hidden in an alcove. The man that you were after returned fire at your blaster shots. Todo went to distract the perp but wound up getting himself slammed starkly against a wall.
His photoreceptors blinked out; shut down - he was walking blind. The little yellow lights wouldn’t flicker on – something had come loose, and you couldn’t bear to leave him there.
You lost your bounty, but this droid had become important to you. He had warmed up to your presence, though he could still be curt towards you from time to time.
Cad came upon you, disappointed, annoyed, though he couldn’t be too upset after he heard the story; saw you with Todo’s back access panel open. One of his optical sensors had dislodged – you popped it right back into place; secured it. The bounty hunter was impressed by this new ability you had hidden from him and would put it to good use.
You were a team for at least a year or two– he taught you everything he knew: how to wind your wrist to throw a bola; the safest distance to remain after arming a thermal detonator; how to operate his speeder bike, the amount of electrical current needed to down a Humanoid, a Hutt, smaller species such as Rodians, and even larger ones like Wookies.
He taught you how to tell when someone was lying to you by the glint hidden in their eyes; the twitching of their mouths. He showed you how to track droids, bi-peds, and those with tentacles.
He instructed you on astronavigation and how to read star charts. He showed you hidden paths through various planetary systems, how to forge landing codes, to counterfeit new identifies and to remain hidden in the open.
Then he explained something to you – he didn’t work for the Guild, and never would. He informed you of "The Code" that every bounty hunter lived by - what to do and what not to do. He supposed you wouldn’t want to follow in his footsteps – to live off the beaten path.
He brought you to Mos Espa one day on the pretense of another job. He led you to a Guild hall, brushed a note of dirt off your otherwise clean shoulder. He mentioned he had one more lesson to teach you, folded his arms, looked off into the distance before returning those hypnotizing eyes to your expectant face. He looked into yours; he spoke clearly, masking his feelings behind a tone of apathy. “I broke de rule wit’ you, but ya’ best un’da’sstand dis. Look out fer you, an’ only you – an'ything ‘sides dat is weakness, through an’ through.”
Cad’s fingers had grazed the rim of his bolero, a sign he meant to leave. You reached out for him, called out to him. He turned only momentarily. “Thank you.” was all you could think to say, though there was so much more to it than that – though Cad was a man of few words himself. You tried to spare him, knowing deep down you had meant something to him, and it was hard enough to say goodbye.

I actually gave it to him as a prank because I thought it would be super embarrassing for you, but I'm happy it worked out, but I would have been happy if he hated it, but I'm happy he didn't
Sending yet another follow up email to a faculty member who hasn't answered my last two... sighs.
