I didn’t have much time these days to drum ideas for this but I’m glad I got this done before the end of the year.

"A Fairy Good Night" was so cute! I loved learning the hearts were part of Max's tactile stimming and how he always keeps them in his pocket to touch whenever he feels overwhelmed. It's very important and a big help to have something like that on hand at any age.
There's different ways to tactile stim, and as someone with ADHD I personally tactile stim with my body by repeatedly tapping the distal phalanx points of my fingers together, both on my hands and on any surface I can find in a room that's unfamiliar to me, I like the vibrations.
Reaction to “Wreckless Driver” (S6 E12)
Admit it—the moment you saw Aglaé in the promo materials, and saw her as the damsel in more distress than anyone else, and then saw her run screaming away from Ladybug? You figured she was gonna be the villain, or at least the drama queen making everything worse, as per “Climatiqueen.” People with hi-vis mental illness get hit with this whammy on the regular. Everyone wonders why they can’t take care of themselves, can’t keep it together… never mind the reason why is that they really and truly can’t, not without help.
Speaking of emotional distress, Marinette’s carrying around plenty of self-blame: for Adrien losing his father, for lying to him and everyone else about Gabriel, for losing the Butterly Miraculous, for letting another supervillain akumatize people. And unlike everyone else in this episode, she’s unable to avail herself of a therapist. It’s a wonder she doesn’t break down completely under the strain, and the fact she hasn’t testifies to her incredible resolve. Or, as suggested at the end of “Mister Agreste”, is it just resignation?
The minute I saw Ray and his crew in this ep, I knew they’d cause trouble. And it turns out, they already had.
On that note, this is ep 12, but “Sleeping Syren”, in which someone jumped these guys to stop them from messing with people, was ep 6. I’m beginning to think neither the episode order nor the airdates mean anything anymore.
The kid whose best friend is an AI that he created himself is on the spectrum? Quel surprise. Anyway, we stan representation paired with education.
“Don’t listen to toxic people with failed socialization.” Not Max out here spitting fluoroantimonic acid all over these clowns!
Her hair. HER HAIR. The shape, the texture! The new animation engine is a gift that keeps on giving.
Admit it, again—the whole time Aglaé’s been on screen, you analyzed her every word for some clue she was really Chrysalis. You even wondered if her dad wasn’t somebody she made up or manipulated, like the way Lila/Cerise somehow ended up with three moms. You also trigged on the fact that she was the first person akumatized by Chrysalis instead of Monarch.
Okay, I respect Dr. Dubocouale for the wisdom she dropped in the season 5 finale… but was it really a good idea to hire the T-Rex lady as a science teacher? One false move on her end and this place becomes Jurassic Park High School.
Alya raises three important points to remember about mental health, directly and indirectly. First, your loved ones are not and cannot be your therapists, if only because they don’t necessarily know or understand how to negotiate your trauma and emotions. Second, even the most confident, functional people may need professional help at some point. Third, not everyone who seeks therapy stays in therapy the rest of their lives; they go just long enough to resolve the problem at hand, and they move on.
The fandom has sometimes speculated on the emotional damage all these akumatizations inflict on the average Parisian normie. This episode examines it in microcosm, via someone so paralyzed with fear by all the attacks, including one which directly endangered her life, that she developed several phobias and an anxiety disorder.
Even at this super-progressive new school all the kids attend, there’s still a bullying problem. Even the Garden of Eden had a snake in it. You’d think Ray and his peeps would learn something after getting cocooned. But Chloe never seemed to get the memo either, even after having her hands slapped so many times they bled.
Speaking as someone with lived experience with emotional outbursts and anger issues, one of the hardest things to handle is taking ownership of the damage you caused while in the throes of your personal crisis. The things you said, the stuff you broke, the people you scared or abused, the legal trouble it caused, the video of your meltdown that someone posted online, the way people treat you even after your apology… you may have been having a moment, but once that moment has passed you have to take responsibility for how you reacted and the effects it had on yourself and other people. And sometimes, just like Dr. Psiquat, the people trying to help you are the people you hurt the most.
Even mental health professionals are not immune to the dark emotions. Burnout is a constant threat, along with the nagging fear that you’re not making a difference in a world awash with suffering. I never thought I’d see the concept addressed in a “kiddie” show, but I’m here for it.
This episode features Pegasus, Purple Tigress, and Polymouse in active roles as opposed to the cameos they made in “Sleeping Syren”. Much love to Polymouse especially and her Labubu attack. And Rena Rouge’s use of a hedge maze to distract Wreckless Driver is a neat callback to the “maze” analogy Alya invoked earlier.
It wouldn’t be a season 6 “Miraculous” episode without Chat Noir taking a critical hit. Pauvre, pauvre pussycat.
Sometimes, really, the best thing you can do for your mental health is eat something.
One thing you better learn quickly when you work in mental health is that you need to focus on the people you can help and the people you have helped than trying to save the world singlehanded, cursing yourself for all the people you supposedly couldn’t save.
Okay, if Aglaé is at school… and Chrysalis is in her lair… then who’s flying the plane? But seriously, take Aglaé off your suspect list: she and Lila/Cerise can’t be the same person.
And at the end of it, we have the most powerful force of all: friendship. You can’t love someone out of a mental illness, and you certainly can’t cure them overnight. But just being there for someone who needs it counts for so much. Now Aglaé has someone in her corner… and so does Adrien.
When he’s helping the duo, Pegasus doesn’t talk a ton, but he’s exceedingly reliable. In general, he’s a very useful hero to have around, and surely a frustrating person to engage in combat. There’s also not a single risk of him divulging his identity because he’s great at compartmentalizing and handles his hero work more professionally than the rest of the team.
Speaking of the others, I think at least half the class is neurodivergent, not least of all the main character. Kim has undiagnosed ADHD, Mylene has symptoms of anxiety, Chloe has Narcissistic Personality Disorder which took advantage of Sabrina’s Dependent Personality Disorder, etc. I don’t expect the story to canonize any of it beyond what we already have, but I have plenty of ideas about which characters deal with what.
Marinette takes a crash course in neurodivergency. Our villain is for all the sleepy girls who love to nap. I review Miraculous Ladybug, Season 6, Episode 17 "A Fairy Good Night".
