wizardarchetypes' post asking about hallucinations as a side effect of mold and carbon monoxide toxicty split off into several different reblog chains and they each have cool links posted in them, so instead of reblogging a bunch of long posts i thought i would just link to the OP and mention that the reblogs are really cool, check em out. seems like the answer to the central question is, "yes, CO and mold toxicity is known to cause hallucinations and could be/likely is responsible for some 'occult phenomena' in 'haunted houses', but it seems like some individuals will be a lot more likely to have those issues in toxic environments than others so it doesnt mean everyone seeing weird shit is living in a moldy/gassed up house."
another really good reblog that i liked in that chain was the person bringing up that having weird experiences or visions or seeing "ghosts" can sometimes be an indicator that someone is experiencing regular-degular psychosis from plain ol schizophrenia, and that this is nomalized/brushed off in families and households where everyone living there has a genetic propensity for these neurological differences, which can be dangerous for someone whose latent schizophrenia or psychosis is surfacing and who actually needs and wants (important qualifier) medical assistance
anyway i dont have a punchline i just thought it was a cool thread with a lot of interesting links in it and papers
edit: also wizardarchetypes got tumblr-reading-comprehensioned and people thought they were trying to prove some sort of point about mold/hallucinations/ghosts (there were a lot of different misinterpretations) and they WERENT. they were just wondering what research actually existed on the topic! something i do all the time also and people get mad at me about. so i want to restate that sometimes people just ask questions on here and they arent trying to convince or prove or disprove anything. we're just curious. jeez
