I headcanon that the reason Ms Boom calls Berdly “Burghley” is just because she likes calling him that. A teacher of mine used to call me George, and Ms Boom seems like she'd call people she likes saying the first part of someone's name right, but getting the second part wrong. Also this would explain why Berdly calls Susie Susan, he's mirroring Ms Boom.

Also Ms Boom cares about Berdly like how a grandma would. Berdly's job is to be her caregiver, but it’s completely optional for Berdly, she doesn’t really need a caregiver. Berdly thinks that Ms Boom only cares about him because he's her caregiver, and he thinks that he's there because she needs him.
