It’d be the most on-brand Mummy franchise casting if Mummy 4 really did have Cillian Murphy as an Aztec mummy. There were three Egyptian mummies in the first two movies and they were played by an Afrikaner actor, a Puerto Rican actress, and a Samoan actor. Literally the only mummy who was accurate was Jet Li.

This isn’t even going into the fact that Evelyn and Jonathan are supposed to be half-Egyptian.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reuniting for a fourth "Mummy" movie.

I have to say I didn't see that coming. I hope they don't mess this up like they did Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny and Terminator: Dark Fate. I wonder if it will ignore Tomb of the Dragon Emperor? I guess if we hear next that Freddie Boath has been cast as Alex, we'll know. (Though Wikipedia says he left acting to work in marketing).

My pitch for Mummy 4:

Just to set things up -

1) We are ignoring the events of Mummy 3.

2) The movie is set in 1955, 22 years after Mummy Returns. We are also moving the setting to Mexico.

The main villain / the mummy is a warrior who fought during one of the Aztec flower wars. He fought for Tlaxcala and was later caught by the Aztecs and sacrificed. However, his anger towards the Aztecs was so great that in the afterlife, the god Camaxtli decided to offer him immortality. If the warrior agreed to become its champion, they will grant him the power to destroy the Aztecs. The warrior agreed and was resurrected. He then took the Aztec empire down (specifically by helping the Spanish conquistadors and rallying all the native people who hated the Aztecs). After the Aztecs fell, the Spanish turned against him since they feared his wrath. The warrior was then somehow sealed away.

In the present day, the site where the mummy-warrior was sealed is discovered by a group of explorers. The O'Connells are invited, which is how they get involved in the storyline. Of course, shenanigans occur since one of the new characters accidentally frees the mummy-warrior.

So now, the O'Connells and their allies must stop the freed Tlaxcalan warrior, whose thirst for blood and vengeance is still great even after spending centuries imprisoned. At first, he seems peaceful since the Aztecs are gone and the Spanish have left Mexico. However, his new goal is now to destroy all of Mexico since he sees it as “corrupted” after several years of Spanish colonization. Even though he knows this won’t bring back his people, he’s too blinded by hatred and vengeance to see things another way.

New characters/recasts -

1) Gabriel Luna as our main villain, the Tlaxcalan warrior-turned-immortal mummy who is driven by hatred and vengeance

2) David Corenswet as Alex O'Connell (22 years later)

3) Eiza Gonzalez as Camilla Valdez, a dorky, clumsy, but lovable historian who specializes in Aztec history. She is the next generation Evey since she is both Alex O'Connell’s love interest, as well as the one who accidentally frees the Tlaxcalan mummy from his prison

4) Angela Bassett as Miriam Carnahan, Jonathan’s wife

5) Mason Gooding as Jonathan “Johnny” Carnahan Jr., Miriam and Jonathan’s son who is known for his sharp tongue and bad boy antics.

6) Demian Bichir appears as the old guy who warns the O'Connells about the Tlaxcalan warrior.

7) Cillian Murphy (since I saw the rumors of him being in the movie) plays the slimy secondary antagonist. The human who teams up with the mummy aka Beni Gabor.

(In case it’s not obvious, Alex O’Connell, Camilla Valdez, and Jonathan Jr. are supposed to be the next generation Rick, Evey, and Jonathan in terms of character dynamics)
