Here’s the thing about merch for underrated books: Everyone says they want more of it for their underrated faves. But if you want it ‼️YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO BUY IT‼️ when someone makes it. Or if you are unable to buy it, SHARE IT! Show interest and excitement. Help spread the word! Commenting and liking is really the absolute baseline of what you can do and doesn’t really help other people discover it as much as sharing it does. Creators only have so much time and resources. Most of them are trying to make a profit, even if it's only a tiny one. If they make stuff and it doesn’t sell, they're not going to consider more worth their time or effort. If it’s not selling, they’re not going to make more. This mildly exasperated and disheartened caption is brought to you by a bookworm who is trying to make merch for less well known books but is often disappointed by a distinct lack of positive results 🙃 Im still need to all this, but I can tell you there is a DRAMATIC difference in store traffic when selling popular vs underrated stuff. When I pulled a lot of my old designs from my store to start updating my style, particularly the ACOTAR bookmarks, I went from three to four orders a week to zero. ZERO. I’ve been lucky to get an order or two per month ever since honestly. Sometimes it feels like I’m sending more bookmarks to my reps than to orders. It starts to make you question why you bother. I’m hoping that once I get some new popular series designs done and up, more traffic will return and bring eyes to the underrated book stuff. (as a side note: this isn't specifically about my Poison Study bookmarks, just underrated merch in general. My Poison Study release is going well). (and by well I mean two people have bought stuff.
