Book 69 of 2021. "People are God’s cruelest creations. They’ll step on the smallest of backs to feel an inch taller." April, 1978. Afghanistan. Sitara lives a charmed life. Her beloved father is an important man, a trusted advisor to the President of Afghanistan, she spends her life in and out of the Presidential palace. On one such visit her world changes forever. Her parents and baby brother are dead, as are the people she was closest to. At ten, she finds herself all alone in a country she no longer recognises and one that is no longer safe for her. From here begins her journey to a new life, a half life at best. Hiding her trauma and her longing for a homeland that no longer exists, this book done a brilliant job is taking us into the heart of a young girl who loses everything and has to navigate this world on her own. We follow Sitara from age 10 all the way to age 40 when an encounter with a familiar face from her past, takes her right back to Kabul and to closure. I loved this book, I always tend to enjoy books by #nadiahashimi and this was no different. 3.5/5 . . . #whimsybookworm2021reads #booksbooksbooks #bibliophile #bookreview #unitedbookstagram #sparkslikestars #literaturelover #bookreview #bookrecommendations #booksbooksbooks #ilovebooks #ereader #Kindle #bookworms #booknerdigans #bookblogger #indianblogger (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPi3z3RpAjH/?utm_medium=tumblr
