Hey so I know a bunch of people are hyped for the WoF Roblox game, but I’d checking out this post before you go and support them or buy the game before its free release. The WoF Roblox Dev team has shown to be nbphobic in their actions regarding adding a nb gender option. More info and screenshots below
As seen here the devs specified that non binary is something that absolutely wont be added. Not “we aren’t planning to add it right now”, but “we aren't going to add it at all”. The reason for this?
It’s not canon. Their whole original reason for not adding a nb gender is because its not canon, despite the fact that they have non canon things like dragonbite viper pets. But these things are different for some reason? Not to mention this goes along with the toxic idea that wof dragons cant be trans despite the fact they think just like humans, something that could have been said about gay dragons before the second arc came out. And even if they really wanted to stick to canon stuff, is the fact that they have a fanbase with a good amount of nb players, hell a good amount of nb players in their roblox discord even, not good excuse enough to add it as an option?
This is the last screenshot, but apparently the other reason they have for not adding a gender that they did not bring up at all until people started calling out on how weak of an excuse it being “not canon” was is that it would be difficult to code. Now despite the fact adding a new gender does nothing but change the symbol next to a dragons name because there is no difference between genders, I can understand that in some cases it would be difficult to code this. Do I think that recoding it would be really hard for them to the point that its a good excuse for nb to never be added ever? Not really considering that they’re willing to code 10 different tribes with their own appearances, abilities, and in some cases emotes. Do I find this especially fishy that the coding issue is only being brought up NOW after they were CALLED OUT on how nb not being canon is not a good excuse? Absolutely! I’d be okay if they started this out with the coding issue, but they didn't. To my knowledge the coding issue was only ever mentioned now, months after they initially said they wouldn’t add nb as a gender option. So in conclusion, the wof roblox devs initial reason for not adding a nb option is not valid and is actually hypocritical, due to having other things in the game that are not canon. It would also mean that they care more about keeping the game “canon compliant” than representing their nb playerbase, which does exist and which they do have part of it in their own discord server. It took months for the devs to even mention the coding issue, which while depends person to person on whether or not that's a valid excuse, I think everyone can agree that its more than suspicious that this was only ever brought up as an afterthought after getting backlash for their original reasoning. You all are welcome to your own opinions, but to me this seems more nbphobic than anything, and I’d appreciate this info being shared for other people to decide whether or not they want to continue supporting the game.
