So, uh, we did a thing a week ago and added two cockatiels to our family. Sunny (left) and Luna (right). Not the most creative names as it turns out, but inviting your children to help you name pets is a headache in the making, do not do this. But honestly, bringing them home was the best decision ever. I am enjoying them so much. They're not hand tame, or any kind of tame really, so we've all spent the week getting to know each other. Sunny is more outgoing and we suspect he is a boy - he whistles and sings now, whereas Luna is incredibly standoffish and flighty. She chirps and hisses. Sunny will now take sunflower seeds from our fingers through the bars of the cage, so that's progress. Sweet, junky, delicious progress. Luna didn't panic when I offered her a sunflower seed, but she also isn't brave enough to steal from my fingers. It will take time. We don't know much about them - they came from a local feed store and my husband fell in love with Luna, so. We were told they were young, not long out of the nest, and the price didn't match what is expected in our area for hand reared birds, so we assume they've been handled very little. Anyway. Here they are sleeping. They've finally settled enough to feel mostly safe tucking their heads and napping properly. Luna was asleep, but she heard the camera and needed to keep an eye on me and make sure the HANDS OF DOOM weren't coming for her.
