Weird Wizarding World Thought...
Slang. It varies from country to country. I mean, we’ve all seen those posts making fun of Australian slang, right? And we Americans often make fun of British, Scottish, and Canadian slang. And I’m absolutely sure that people in those countries make fun of our American slang as well. BUT! We can understand it. Mostly. Not all of it. But most! Which is mostly down to Television. Admit it. Would we Americans know that to “nick” something means to “steal” it in British slang without TV? I don’t think so! But what about wizards? I mean, sure the muggle-borns would likely be able to understand different slang, especially since they come home every summer and sit in front of a TV for three months. But the purebloods? The half-bloods without a muggle parent? No TV for them. So, what would happen if a British wizard, a Hogwarts alumni, travelled to the U.S.? Came across some no-maj-borns? Some Ilvermorny grads? And had to listen to them speak in American slang? Or even American wizard slang? How would they know what they’re talking about? I mean, modern slang is a new language unto itself. No way they can understand. Thoughts?
