Secrets Revealed

Putting her hands together Ruby paused at first watching him carefully. After everything that had happened since Ozpin had locked himself away in the farthest reaches Oscar’s mind, the want to keep no more secrets between all of them she wondered why exactly Qrow had called her into the room alone.

“Sure.” Silver eyes glanced towards the spot he had tapped a couple of times in order of allowing her to join him. But as she moved across the room and he began to speak. Ruby could tell that there was something on his mind, something that had him looking like a nervous wreck than she thought she’d ever seen in him. Leaning forward slightly Ruby placed a hand over his and offered a small smile. “It’s okay Uncle Qrow.”

Relaxing just a bit, he finally offered her a small smile in return as she rested her hand over his. I’m hoping you still think so after I tell you this, he thought to himself. Taking a deep breath, Qrow steadied his heart rate as best as he could. “With everything, there’s something you should know. I’ve... well Tai and I both really, have been keepin’ a secret. We agreed that it was best not to tell ya but that was before... well, before all of this...”

He was stalling but not entirely on purpose. The right words just didn’t seem to want to put themselves together right in his head. Now really was a bad time to have made the choice to try and give up the booze, he could use a bit to at least calm his nerves. No, no he could do this and he didn’t need that. All he needed was to keep reminding himself he was better off.

Shifting a bit, he made himself catch Ruby’s eyes. It was always rough on him to look at them... the same eyes that Summer had. The momentary realization had a spike of ache go through his chest. He really missed her at times like this. She would have had a better time dealing with this. For all the ache though, seeing her in Ruby’s eyes actually calmed him down a bit like her’s always had too.

“I just, I don’t want anymore secrets between us either, Kiddo,” he finally continued. “Have ya ever noticed that I look after you more than I do Yang?” He was still stalling a bit, but at least with this question he was also hoping to gauge if Ruby had ever questioned it, see if maybe she had wondered on her own. That would make things easier, at least he hoped.

Okay so, basically your secret could be anything. Im going to start small. Im secretly gay. The only people that know is my closest friends (two people) and now you guys. I know that may not seem big, but like I said I'm starting small. This is big for me to share, and also kinda hard.

A Key to His Past

Ruby has been so excited to get out of the house and go look around that she’d forgotten her key. A small minor mistake that had her leaning her head against the door with a somber look on her face. When Qrow asked her to step aside Ruby looked back. Noticing he’d taken a small kit from inside his coat she looked at him skeptically. How was a small box going to help them get into her room? But still she stepped back. “Uncle Qrow where did you…?” But before she could continue the lock popped and the door seemed to open just slightly. “But what about no secrets?” Though she had to admit maybe this was something that should be kept under wraps.

Standing there, arms crossed over his chest, Qrow shrugged slightly. “I never told ya about where I grew up did I?” Truth be told, he probably hadn’t. When Raven had left and gone back to their tribe, Ruby wasn’t even born yet. He also knew that Tai didn’t talk too much about that either, especially for Yang’s sake. Given the circumstances, and the fact that Yang had actually gone looking for Raven already, it was probably a safe bet that he could talk about this with Ruby now.

“Come on Kiddo, let’s go inside and I’ll tell ya all about the ‘family’ I couldn’t get away from fast enough...”
