James was not a religious man. But the moment he laid eyes on Elizabeth in that white gown he knew for certain he’d encountered an angel. The fearsome, old-testament kind, a wheel with one thousand eyes. An incomprehensible creature not of this world. Her eyes met his and they were liquid, molten brown, and James was compelled to approach her, to offer his arm. A silent plea for the company of one heaven sent. They walked the garden, circling the fountain, and James felt as insubstantial as the turquoise water filled with coins.

First of all, I must recommend Outlaws and Inlaws, starting with The Swan in Flight. If there’s a favourite post-At World’s End headcanon for me, especially one where there’s a kid involved, it’s this one. It kind of includes every PotC ship imaginable, but it’s mostly sparrabeth. And it’s so so gloriously good.

“Once upon a time, there was a Queen who was the beloved of the Ferryman, and who took a mortal man as her consort, a trickster who went to the land of the dead and back. A bard stood behind her throne, and the Lady of the Sea blessed her.”

Another favourite post-AWE headcanon is Name Game.

“James laughs.

You’ve been waiting for him since before you met him. Stop waiting. He always comes to you eventually.”

it’s always darkest before the dawn

A/N: @ghoulishmalady requested sparrabeth + 112 from this prompt post. It didn’t end up being strictly sparrabeth (I think this is part of my All The King’s Men-verse) but I hope it’s okay, and anyone can read this whichever way they please.

A ship’s bell rings the end of the middle watch somewhere far below; the fog that lingers in the Cove carries the echo far. Yet in the highest pinnacle of the City the wind whistles and howls like a restless ghost. 

It’s a cold night in the Shipwreck City.

She curls her toes against the near-icy surface of the floorboards in the ancient crow’s nest and pulls the shawl tighter around her shivering body – and gasps out a cloud of steam when a shooting star flashes through the endless sky and into the far horizon.

“Is he coming home?” 

The voice is muffled with sleep and she smiles as she descends the last steps of the ladder and makes her way to the sturdy, finely carved four-poster bed: a baroque relic from the time of another Court, another King.

“Mm-hmm.” She pulls the heavy covers up to her chin and snuggles up against his back.

“Good,” he mumbles, pulling her arm around himself and placing a sleepy kiss on her knuckles. “You never sleep easy without him.”

I don’t know if it is more concerning or valid that I am more wondering interested in how my ships would spend Christmas than I am about my own.

James Norrington

Watching “Pirates of the Caribbean”-trilogy again and felt the need to write this rant. I have been in team Sparrabeth as long as I remember, but I also fancy Norrabeth, as friends, at least, if not even lovers. Commodor Norrington was a good, conflicted man, and grew the most during the series including Elizabeth. He really loved Lizzie and there was nothing that he wouldn't have done to save her. If you look at a deleted scene, where Governor and him hear about Elizabeth's "death", he is absolutely crushed. Why did they leave so many little scenes with them out? They really deepened their relationship. I deeply dislike the fact that some people think that just because Elizabeth chose Will, she didn't care about James at all. That's not true. She teached him so much about the acceptance and really respected him as a man. They share so much understanding. For example, partly cut out scene where Elizabeth finds James outside the tavern and says: "James Norrington...what has the world done to you?" and he replies: "Nothing I didn't deserve." always touches my heart, along with "Better insane with the rest of the world than sane alone." James knows about Elizabeth's complex feelings for Jack before she can even admit them to herself. Even though she's mad at the moment, she knows when he's lying, believes him when he says he was innocent to her father's death and is ready to forgive him and take him with them. 

When they kissed, some fans went all down  the “Eww, why did he kiss her, she’s with Will!”-road, which I don’t personally understand. Norrington stepped aside when Elizabeth stated that she wanted to be with Will and respected it, even if it hurt him inside. To me their kiss was a tender goodbye-kiss, since Norrington probably knew that he was going to die, get trapped or losing his position because of his mercifulness. One way or another, this meant he wouldn’t probably see her again.

Long story short: James Norrington deserved much better. Even though Norrabeth didn’t happen, he deserved the chance to see the world, get the position he ached for and perhaps get to know Will and Elizabeth’s child. His death is one of the most horrible and poetic ones in the franchise and hits me right in the feels. It would’ve been interesting to see Jack and James’ relationship developing into some kind of “frenemies”-state, since Jack always rooted for him. I was so looking forward to see him in “POTC 5″ and was very disappointed when it didn’t happen. Hopefully he appears in some form, when the last part comes. Rest in peace, James Norrington.
