Tony will not tell Peter what event they are going to. He will simply send Peter to multiple fittings with zero context.

When Peter finds out, he flips out about the moral and ethical issues he has about the met gala. An argument that Tony was trying to avoid by keeping Peter in the dark.

Peter agreeing to go just to make a political statement with his outfit.

Tony will originally have a boring ass suit picked. Peter quickly changes that.

If their relationship is a secret, I imagine some kind of decorative mask that fits the theme. He is Stark's mystery trophy and is the talk of the gala.

They'd definitely have a wardrobe change or some sort of reveal. Maybe even reveal of Peter as his partner?

Peter would not hold back at the interview, and Tony is just staring at him with heart eyes the entire time.

Peter is making sure he is clearly stating every donation Stark Industries is giving which matches the exact amount of specific outfits and tickets. He spent a full week putting it together himself with Pepper.
