Since the pride video (which was amazing btw) came out today, I figured I'd briefly talk about something that kinda falls under that umbrella, that I don’t think too many people are familiar with
There are a lot of flags, labels, and terms out there, and it's really confusing at times, and it's super easy to only know information about the bigger, well known labels (bi, pan, aroace, gay, lesbian, trans, nonbinary, genderfluid, etc) while completely missing out on the other terms that are equally as important
So here we are now
For me personally, I'm a bisexual cis lady. I'm also noviromantic
The bi and cis parts of that, I don't need to explain. Noviromantic,, however. That's a lesser used term (I could be wrong about the frequency of which it's used, but I haven't seen much about it online myself, so that's what I'm going off of), and in short, it means that my romantic attraction and/or lack thereof is too confusing for me to really fully explain. At times, I don't even understand it, myself
This is the flag for it. There's a version without a heart that's for being novisexual as well, but I'm focusing on the romantic aspect instead right now
The flag comes from this post, which gives a clear definition of noviromantic and novisexual, as well as an explanation for each of the colors and what they mean
The green lines, if I'm not mistaken, are inclusive of anyone who falls under the aro and/or ace umbrellas
There ARE other designs for the noviromantic flag done by people on Reddit, in which one person changed the colors, but for me, their colors were a bit too bright. Not BAD by any means, just bright. The other person changed the colors of the original too, but they blended it with the colors of the aro flag for better representation
Anywho. Yeah. Noviromantic and novisexual aren't as commonly used as the bigger labels and terms, and I don't see or hear much discussion about them, so I figured I'd ramble a bit. That's my only real reason for making this post. To be clear, I think all labels and terms are equally as important as one another. There is no one term, label, identity type, or orientation type that's above all the others. They're all important, and they all deserve to be loved and accepted, even if they're confusing or difficult to understand

Coming Out
So. I’m bisexual and noviromantic. I go to this group thing and we got on the topic of being LGBT. I had wanted to come out as bi for the LONGEST time but never felt like it was the right time or had all the right words to describe it. I also wasn’t entirely sure of how I would be received, as the subject hadn’t really been discussed in depth with this group and the members had changed enough that I wasn’t sure if the group would be stable enough for me to feel comfortable enough to come out. That changed last week when one of my group mates came out, in a way. I don’t remember what I said, but another group mate asked if I was gay; I said no, not really/not technically/something like that. Then, this week, the same group mate who asked if I was gay came out. Note, this isn’t the person who came out initially. It spurred almost an hour and a half of conversation about being LGBT, one in which every member of the group-myself included-came out. Even one of our leaders came out when asked about their identity. The group mate who came out last week was crying in relief at how much support was flowing in that group.
So, I decided to come out. It was perfect timing, but boy was I nervous. I’d pulled up my Tumblr on my laptop that I bring like every time I go to the group and was showing some of the tags-LGBT & bisexual, namely. So I searched the bi flag and pulled up a pic that read Bi and Proud to use so I didn’t have to use my words to come out. The subtopic changed quickly enough that I clicked away from the pic until the group leader sitting next to me asked if I wanted to share the pic. I did. It took me a minute to gather the courage to do it, with a little help from the group leader. They kept telling me I didn’t have to and that there was no pressure. But I wanted to. I needed to come out because I had been dancing around the topic for well over a year. I closed my eyes when I turned the computer screen around; I was too afraid of their reactions.
Seeing that pic saying bi and proud changed nothing. In fact, it made them proud of me for being so willingly open about my sexuality. I had been providing answers and chiming in with useful information the whole night. But I was shaking and nervous. My face felt so hot my skin felt like it was aflame. The group mate who initially came out was crying again. One group member-neither of the ones who’d come out at this point-had been very quiet. It’s in his nature. So when we (finally) got to him (we tend to collectively have squirrel brain and go on tangents way too often), I swear he came out too. It was a shock to my system, which was already flooded with adrenaline and nerves, so I’m not too sure that I understood him correctly.
I talked for like 20 minutes in the parking lot with the person who first came out after we left the group. We both felt so free, so energized, like weights had been lifted off our shoulders/chests. I hugged him like 3 different times because it was too much and we were pretty much soaring on Cloud 9 and it was almost too much for my group mate. We also talked via text and Snapchat for like 2.5 hours after we got home. I can’t explain how good it feels to come out and be validated and to not be the only one who came out. I feel like we created irreversible bonds tonight. Ones we’ll never lose so easily. And when the last guy came out (the one that’s very quiet) I jumped back my chair diagonally away from him and went, “Shocker!” (he was sitting next to me and had I not been so nervous it would have been a shock because he’d like never share w/o prompting.
We unofficially became an LGBT group tonight. That feels so good. I don’t have to dance around the gender of a potential partner-the pronoun they could mean male, female, or otherwise-since everyone knows I’m into more than one gender (hello, bisexuality). It’s been a really long day. I should get some sleep, but I don’t want to leave the Cloud 9 of the real world that I’ve taken residence on for the Cloud 9 of the dream world because I’m terrified I’ll wake up and the high of coming out and being well-received will be but a fleeting memory like it was the morning after I came out the last time (and it was a while ago, so I forgot what this feels like).
