Biography of Excellence
Associate Professor Gülsen Meral graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine in 1994 and completed her specialization in pediatrics in 2001. Over the years, she has served in significant clinical and leadership roles, including positions as deputy chief physician and chief physician in multiple hospitals.
Her academic journey is equally inspiring. She has served as Associate Professor in Pediatrics, held the role of Rector’s Advisor (2019–2021) at Northern Cyprus ITU, and contributed widely as an educator in child development, nutrigenetics, and medical genetics. In addition, she is a certified Acupuncture instructor and has pioneered graduate-level courses in nutrigenetics.
Dr. Meral holds a Master’s Degree in Hospital Management, a PhD in Medical Genetics, and even pursued an undergraduate education in Turkish Literature—a reflection of her wide-ranging intellectual pursuits. She has authored multiple scientific publications, worked with international editorial boards, and reviewed leading research in her field.
Beyond medicine, her creativity shines through her five published poetry books and her widely acclaimed book, Dancing with Genes.
Leadership and Recognition
Assoc. Prof. Meral is the Founder of the Nutrigenetics and Epigenetics Association, an organization dedicated to advancing global understanding of how nutrition and epigenetics intersect with health. She has also played a central role in organizing the International Epigenetic Congress, serving as president of its first and second editions.
Her professional memberships include the International Society of Nutrigenetics & Nutrigenomics, Istanbul Acupuncture Association, Green Crescent, and Rumelia Association. Currently, she leads the Epigenetic Coaching Program, providing certified CPD training for healthcare professionals worldwide in nutrigenetics and epigenetics counseling.
