Fellow dermatillomania sufferers: remember to disinfect any open wounds (antibacterial ointment, rubbing alcohol, salve) as soon as you snap out of a picking session– the wounds are one problem, but make sure you're not infected (keep track of red circles around the area). If you can't take care of the picking directly, make sure to take care of yourself in any other way you can, be gentle with yourself. Love you all, any progress is progress!
I just realized that the tissues and lotion I keep next to each other in my room to help with my skin picking issues would make me look like an unequivocal masturbator in a teenage boy coming-of-age movie.

OCD Logic is Terrible
Problem: very stressed over schoolwork and a slightly ingrown nail
Solution: attempt to rip out your nails
Me: Wow, since I've painted my nails black, it's helped me get rid of my nail biting compulsion as well as some problems that came from having short nails, this is great!

Present Me: ... honey, that was OCD
Dermatillomania Brain: pick pick pick ow fuck Me: Okay, I'm currently having an issue with picking my skin. My nails have grown a bit too long, so logically I should clip my nails a little bit for now and figure out a better strategy while I'm doing so. Onychophagia Brain: Bite it 'til the red skin underneath the nail is uncovered and hurts like a bitch, gotcha boss!
