William Morris' works (1)
Recently, people have taken an interest for the "pre-Tolkien fantasy", aka the fantasy words that predated in literature Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. People put together "brief" two-hours guide to the early fantasy literature:
People are rediscovering Lord Dunsany...
The Night Land is becoming very popular again...
Etc, etc, etc...
I want to bring my little piece to the vast effort by talking about William Morris, often credited as the "grand-father of fantasy" compared to Tolkien's "father of fantasy". Recently William Morris books have been translated (or re-translated) in French with new, beautiful editions - complemented with prefaces analyzing and talking about Morris' writing and how it places itself within the fantasy genre.
Given these prefaces are likely not disponible for those who do not speak French, I thought of doing some info-mining on them, to share some stuff - you know, get back into the posting mood, and what better post than a list of trivia about a forgotten author you never heard about? Xp
So prepare yourself for some William Morris posts
