New YA Titles for DC Ink

DC Comics revealed new young adult titles for their DC Ink imprint at BookCon 2019. In addition to the new titles for Spring 2020, DC has also released a trailer for Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo’s Teen Titans: Raven.

New titles include The Oracle Code, by writer Marieke Nijkamp and artist Manuel Preitano,

The Lost Carnival: A Dick Grayson Graphic Novel by Michael Moreci and artist Sas Milledge,

Shadow of the Batgirl by writer Sarah Kuhn and artist Nicole Goux, and 

Gotham High, by writer Melissa de la Cruz and artist Thomas Pitilli.

Teen Titans Raven is the first book of a multi-part Teen Titans graphic novel series from writer Garcia and artist Picolo. The second novel, Teen Titans: Beast Boy, will release in 2020.

Teen Titans: Raven goes on sale July 2, 2019.

Babs is my role model

The Oracle Code was pretty good.

The Good:

1. Teenage Babs was teenage Babs.

2. The art is really nice. Puzzle motif. Bedhead.

3. Good themes: finding yourself, it’s okay to be scared sometimes, stop trying to “fix” people

The Bad:

1. Babs was never Batgirl. The only DC characters present are Babs and Commissioner Gordon.

2. The story claims to be about Oracle and hacking, but there’s minimal hacking and not really any discussion of Orcale.

3. It’s not really that superhero-y, which I think is unfortunate, because it implies that Babs/Oracle isn’t a superhero.

Basically: I liked it but I wish probably would have liked it more if I weren’t such a diehard Oracle fan.
