It... breaks my heart all the time that people play story-centric games and visual novels like Obey Me!, Twisted Wonderland, and Dream of Mirror (Aeria Games era) for the sole purpose of... just racking up numbers.
There's a novelty and novel element here. It's a STORY. With characters that feel like real people because they are often directly or indirectly BASED on real people.
I love Floyd, he reminds me of someone I loved dearly back when I was living in Miami... that person likely passed away, so seeing Floyd Leech... just being Floyd Leech... it's something indescribably special. I need Floyd sometimes just to feel okay about myself, about my life, and about my heritage and damnable status as a mixed-raced indigenous person.
Twisted Wonderland is precisely for people like me. And further, in Genshin Impact, the Cryo and Anemo Archons give Visions to misfits and outcasts of mixed and stigmatized heritage JUST LIKE ME.
My home as it was, and as it was always intended with fields of maíz and sugarcane on a private estate with nary an unpaid employee to see... it exists, but it isn't for me.
Because I'm just Nobody, and I'm just passing through.
