Helpless Pt.2
Part One
Villain sat quietly, eyes locked on the fading sky. Supervillain had strictly instructed him to not retaliate against the heroes until the night, something to do with a plan of his. Villain really couldn’t care less what his boss did in their free time, Villain just wanted to wreak some havoc.
As he watched the sun go down, he could feel his muscles tightening, his heartbeat accelerating. He loved this feeling. Everytime he reenergized, it felt like he could destroy the world all over again. He couldn’t wait to see the look on Hero’s face when he showed up to ruin their perfect week.
Villain had all the details covered and knew the street perimeter like the back of his hand. The plan was simple; cause a minor traffic accident to keep the heros busy, then head to the real target. Villain was going to rob the most expensive bank in the city. He knew for certain that they would be understaffed when he arrived. And what better way to spend a person’s Sunday night than to burn down the place where stuck up rich people kept their money because they didn’t want to be associated with the poor?
Finally, Villain’s powers returned as the sun began to hide from the moon, and the night began. He got up from the rooftop he was sitting on, and made his way to the two way street below him.
A minor accident.
He chuckled at the thought.
Without hesitation; he threw himself off of the building.
Cars screeched to a stop as fast as they could, attempting not to hit the young man that had fallen from above. Villain laughed as the pavement hit his back, making an indent as it cushioned his drop. A nearby truck swerved to avoid him, and struck a lamppost, smashing into it in a cloud of smoke.
Unharmed, Villain got up. He had been hoping on someone hitting him, this wouldn’t do. Hastily, he gripped the hood of the car nearest to him, shoving it backwards with a thrust. The car hit the car behind it with a thud. Villain listened for screams or the sound of bones breaking. Nothing besides quickness of breath and a fast heartbeat. Good, he didn’t kill anybody this time. He was getting better at this.
With a smirk at the pedestrians filming him on their phone, he shoved past the wreckage of the cars, jumping up onto the nearest building. Let the heroes deal with that while he had some real fun. Normally, regular accidents were dealt with by the police, but people would be posting those videos of him soon, and then the Gifted Society would be called, sending their favourite Golden Trio to deal with him.
Jumping from building to building, he made his way to the bank’s street, landing next to it and smiling at the person at the front desk. He pushed open the front doors, and everyone stilled. Villain continued swaggering towards the front desk, grinning from ear to ear. Eyes followed as he went, and murmurs filled his hearing.
“That’s..that’s-” a customer began.
“Villain,” the customer service woman behind the cashier finished with wide eyes.
He patted the dirt off of his shirt. His uniform for targets like this was his criminal identity’s signature outfit; black combat boots in black jeans, black shirt with a bright yellow trench coat. His gun and knives were strapped to the belt at his waist.
With a wide smirk he began, “Sophie darling, how are you on this fine night?”
Without giving her time to answer, he turned to the wide eyed customers in their fur coats and high heels, ties and mustaches. “You get what’s happening here right, or do I need to make it more clear?”
He moved his jacket to further show the belt at his waist. He saw a few people gulp. He grinned in return.
“Now you all file yourself into a neat line over there by the sparkling water fountain, and dear Sophie,” Villain said, returning his attention back to the counter, “You go get every one of your co-workers to come in front of me here. Think about hiding and calling for help? You can, but, I plan on blowing this place up in 3 mins and your precious heroes won’t be able to get here that fast. You should be thanking me for even suggesting to get your little friends out before I send this place up in flames. Now off you go.”
Quickly, Sophie scurried into the hallway nearby the counter, and Villain could hear her fearful shouts for everyone to come with her. Villain turned back to the customers, who had been quick to listen to his orders.
“Stay pups,” he ordered, then walked over to the wall where Sophie went around.
He unhooked one of his knives, and stapped it into the wall. Slowly, the knife began to turn red and smoldering. The device was of his own design, and within 3 minutes it would cause the whole building to go up in flames.
With a scoff, he shouted over his shoulder, “Better hurry Sophie sweetheart.”
Within the second 7 employees shuffled into the room, and Villain could hear their panicked breathing. Without further instruction, he simply said, “Well what are you doing, this place is about to explode, get out of here.”
Hastily they pushed by him, heading straight for the exit door. He glanced at the customers.
“You too,” he added.
The knife began to steam hot smoke, and Villain nodded at himself. He better get out of here too. Pushing open the front door, he walked calmly away, noticing his hostages were all on their phones.
Scoffing at the thought, he jumped up on the building beside him. By the time they got here the building would be already in flames. As if on cue, a loud burst exploded behind him. Villain heard the screams of his hostages, and they quickly ran away from the flames. None were hurt, just scared. Villain was proud it was because of something he did.
As he continued to scale each building in his path, he became aware of the heartbeat not far behind him, stalking him slowly. He didn’t stop moving until he was just on the outskirts of the city. Finally, he glanced behind him, and sure enough, there was his least favourite hero, three buildings from his.
Villain bowed dramatically, “So lovely for you to join the party, Other Hero.”
Other Hero stood tall and unslouching, and Villain stared enticed at her scaled wings. They truly were something magnificent. Without hesitation, the hero brought their wings up high behind them and pushed forwards. Sending a large gust of wind towards Villain. Not enough to push him over, but enough to send a message. Don’t try anything.
Villain simply smiled, “And how are you doing on this fine evening?”
“Dealing with your bullshit, so not great,” Other Hero snarled, streams of smoke coming from her nostrils.
The hero was probably the closest thing the world had to a mythical creature. Other Hero was human, but had powers very similar to those of the westernized fire breathing lizards of mythology.
Villain opened his mouth to reply, when the hero leaped up into the air, soaring directly at him. Villain dropped into a crouch, missing the girl’s claws by inches. If he so wished, he could jump a couple thousand feet away from the fight, disappear down some alley before Other Hero could fly after him. But there was still a particular thorn in his side that he wanted to see before he did.
He stepped to the side, avoiding a tackle to the ground, and reached out to grab one of the hero’s wings. Other Hero cried out and spun around, sending a hot flash of fire from her mouth. Villain dogged the hit, jumping up high, and landing behind the hero, his hand still gripped tight on her wing. He pulled her into a bear hug, strapping her wings and arms down. The girl thrashed and snarled, pushing against his hold, but his grip never faltered. Other Hero growled, and turned her head towards him, sending a gulf of fire straight for his face. He moved his head to the side, eyes focused on the buildings in front of him. Where was Hero?
