sometimes i remember chell may be a shortened version of michelle, name meaning "who is like god" and then wonder if she ever asked and obviously answered her own question. i know chell was pissed, but she had to be scared too. did she have a religion before aperture? does she have one after she escapes the facility? can anybody agree that sometimes the game did seem to have religious undertones or is it just me. also, caroline means "free woman", yet she is not free. gladys (the name that glados sounds like) means ruler but also a welsh form of claudia which means enclosure
goddammit valve just release another game please i beg of you im picking at breadcrumbs
I'm 48. About to turn 49 later this month. So I grew up with the original She-Ra. Watched the show religiously. Collected the toys and books.
She-Ra Princess of Power had to walk so She-Ra and The Princesses of Power could run.
I am watching He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword for the first time in four decades. And it holds up surprisingly well.
Character designs, and backgrounds are top-notch. Characterization is simple, sure. The storytelling is good but not groundbreaking.
Watching it made me realize that animation from the 90s to the present owes so much to the shows of the 80s. It's like a solid foundation on which a beautiful house is built.
Princess of Power was progressive but is still a product of its time. White, cishet characters, black-and-white morality, and everyone has the same body types.
Princesses of Powers pushes for more inclusivity. People of color, queer characters, moral ambiguity, and varied body types.
And on top of that, it's just a great show. I love it so much.
Thinking about the economic effect of the spinning wheel in Europe and how when the king in the Sleeping Beauty story has all the spinning wheels burned that's not just a gesture. He's forcing his people to either import fabric or rely on drop spindles thereby setting themselves back enormously compared with other kingdoms that presumably still have spinning wheels. He's risking poverty, insurgence, invasion, public nudity. In this essay I will
I don't feel bad admitting I have depression of a sort. I just don't want anyone thinking I'm ever suicidal or chronically depressed to the point of feeling completely unhappy. That's never how I feel. It doesn't ever get that bad. It can get bad, but you know...I resent any sort of aspersions that might be cast towards my personal stability in any way beyond that. Due to my dad and my therapist and my interests and stuff, I have an ability to avoid that complete darkness of depression.
But, with my hyperfixation on comics stagnating (if it's not ending, it's definitely stagnating), that means I'm definitely just going through a lot of stuff. And the lack of a super strong hyperfixation means I'm kind of stuck in this weird limbo where the merest things can set my mood spiralling. That's how I sometimes feel, at least. The weather being really dark and rainy out has probably contributed to the strengthening of these emotions. I'm fine, but I do feel mildly existential and sad. Still, expressing these feelings can really be quite helpful.
PS: I was picking at dead skin on my head while I wrote this, and I almost gave myself tears from it (I think). I also might've gotten sad because I felt guilty about never telling my therapist I had an account on here. There's more to it than just that, but you know...that's a part of it.
for everyone getting into Tommy Cash's work for the first time, i highly recommend this video by Overthinking It! the video goes into Tommy's history, including his early rap, his bizarre art projects, and the duality present in all of his work, including Espresso Macchiato 👀💖
If we were to look at all the life series as one story then we could say Bigb gaslit Grian in secret life as revenge for double life.
