Random writing tips that my history professor just told during class that are actually helpful

Download all your sources or print them so you can turn off your wifi

Give your phone to someone

Just. WRITE. Writing is analysing, you’ll get more ideas as you write. It doesn’t need to be perfect, for now you can just blurt out words and ideas randomly. You can fix it later.

Create a skeleton/structure before writing.

Stop before you get exhausted. It’s best to stop writing when you still have some energy and inspiration left, this will also motivate you to get started again next time.

Make a to do list

Work in bite sizes. Even if it’s not much, as long as you put some ideas on paper or do some editing.

Simple language =/= boring language, simple language = clear language.

Own your words. If they are not your words, state this clearly in the text, not just in the footnotes.

STOP BEFORE YOU GET EXHAUSTED. Listing it again because it’s easily one of the best tips a teacher has ever given me.

Phew, lots of stuff happening again! The paper on medieval kissing has been successfully handed in, and i feel like i can see the horizon again. Now i still have lots of things to do and read and think of, but there’s one less deadline looming above my head like a sword of damocles, and im seeing all my friends a lot, and things generally are a lot better, although I’m still struggling with some emotional stuff. Hopefully that’ll get better too.

I’m so glad they invented ripping up paper. No one is doing it like her. It’s the best most satisfying feeling and also sound and you can do it on a small scale. Minute and also massive. There’s literally nothing else like it. You can do it anywhere! Any time! You can do it for free! You can do it for 100 dollars if you find really expensive paper! It’s all amazing! And if you’re wanting to get really shnasty with it you can do it with cardboard! It’s free! And the cops can’t catch you!!! It’s ripping up paper babey! There’s nothing like it!!!!!!

Finished one of my papers! Once I got going, it wasn't terribly difficult.

Now I can focus entirely on my DNP project. *cries* I have a much better direction now, though. I'm officially landing on high-dose steroid use in post-transplant patients with acute graft versus host disease. I'm thinking a provider survey? Something easy, haha.
