So I’m just getting in the Jurassic park/world franchise (I’ve only seen the first two Jurassic park movies) and I’m really confused on why people call the Dino’s villains when in every movie (that I’ve seen) there’s always been a person that causes the issues with the dinosaurs

In the first movie it was Nedry for cutting power to the park and leaving them with no way of turning it back on without him, while he knew there were, not only defenseless people out there, but also children, all because he wasn’t getting paid enough. and let’s be honest there’s no way he wasn’t getting paid more than most people in any other jobs, I mean he was practically running the mechanics of the park and even if Hammond didn’t fully grasp that he at least paid him enough already for him, a very rich guy, to not want to pay him more. Sure, you could argue that he’s rich and would of course be greedy but either way not being paid enough isn’t a reason to get three people, including himself, killed.

In the second it was somewhat both Hammond and Peter Ludlow. Hammond for sending the crew to the island in the first place after knowing first hand the dangers of the Dinos when they’re free (though he was in a cushy safe room the entirety of the first movie), and ludlow because he was trying to exploit the dinosaurs for profit and had the glorious idea of being a t-Rex to the mainland after he had spent more time in danger than Hammond had! And Hammond had seen the errors of his ways of trying to make a profit off of these very dangerous creatures.

I don’t know as much about the world movies, but I do know that the indominus was kept in a cage from birth and her DNA was made from two different apex predators. This is touched upon in the camp Cretaceous show on Netflix, but the doctor who made her (who I forget his name sry) made many more Dinos like her, combining predators, and experimented on them for a chance at profits. From what I know of the indominus, she was an animal that didn’t know what she was other than a caged predator, and let’s remember in the first ever movie dr. Grant bringing up a very important point that the Dinos don’t want to be hand fed, they want to hunt, and when she got out, she was able to hunt. (Though I do know she didn’t eat all that she caught, but that could be more from her killing instincts from not one but two different predators that have very different hunting styles)

All in all, the dinosaurs are animals that don’t belong in these times. They were reborn to be made as entertainment and to make money. The dinosaurs are essentially a euphemism to animal abuse that leads the an animal fighting back. A dog will bite the hand that feeds it if the hand hurts it too

Again this is just me ranting about how I don’t think the dinos could be called the villains, because really in every movie it’s been human error that led to people dying

The Lost World: Jurassic Park Pokemon Teams

The events of the Pokemon World's The Lost World: Jurassic Park are similar to both the novel and movie but with key differences.

If you saw my last Pokemon Team post, then you should have seen that John Hammond dies from his Mega Aerodactyl attacking him. So if this combines both movie and novel, then it should have the beginning like the novel, right? Wrong. John Hammond is still alive, just severely injured like Ian. This is a nod to how Ian in Jurassic Park's novel died with the island and somehow came back. Is this shitty writing? Yes. Am I still going with it? Yes.

InGen is still the antagonist of this movie.

Dinosaurs are not captured by pokeball as there is an inhibitor field covering the area preventing regular pokeballs from working.

John Hammond Both of John's pokemon from the previous movie perished. The miniature copperajah died from his Mega Aerodactyl, and the Mega Aerodactyl was killed by Tyrantrum.

Tim Murphy While Tim and Lex do only appear for a brief second, I'm still bringing them along with their pokemon.

Dr. Ian Malcolm Ian's team doesn't change much, just a few new additions and a few replacing the ones. If you want to see why certain pokemon are added, check the previous post.

Marowak- After the first movie, Ian seems very much hardened by his trauma after Jurassic Park. Marowak's seriousness after evolving from Cubone is meant to reflect this.

Gallade- Another pokemon with precognitive abilities, Gallade replaces Gothitelle as Gothitelle died in the previous story from the Tyrantrum that attacked Malcolm. Ian getting a Gallade also reflects the more protective role he has gained in this story

Haxorus

Dr. Sarah Harding A paleontologist and a pokemon behaviorist in this universe, Dr. Harding's team consists of mainly pokemon that have some relation to paleonotology or some part of Sarah's character and history. Because she is a pokemon behaviorist, she has a full team of pokemon.

Machoke- According the novel, Sarah has a very masculine physique. Machoke is a reference to this.

Pyroar- According to both the movie and novel, Sarah spent time in Africa where she encountered lions. Pyroar is a reflection of that.

Kabutops- According to the lore, Kabuto can still be found in the wild. Sarah Harding

Mamoswine- Through the use of ancient power, Piloswine evolves into Mamoswine.

Tangrowth- Through the use of ancient power, Tangela evolves into Tangrowth

Yanmega- Through the use of ancient power, Yanma evolves into Yanmega.

Eddie Carr The field equipment expert in hammond's team, Eddie's pokemon team is meant to reflect the various tools and equipment he helped create throughout the movie. Most of his pokemon die in their pokeballs however with the except of a few.

Toxapex- This is the reference to the gun that Eddie holds in the movie. I say holds instead of uses as he never uses it.

Ferrothorn- A reflection of the high-hide Eddie invented. Ferrothorn was with Kelly when he died.

Charjabug- All of the vehicles that the research team takes to Isla Sorna are electric. Charjabug is meant to reflect that.

Klinklang- Eddie is a mechanic.

Nick Van Owen A photographer who has been in many combat situations as well as an environmentalist.

Scizor- A reference to the bolt cutters Nick and Dr. Harding used to free the captured dinosaurs

Kelly Curtis Malcolm

Popplio- Starter pokemon that can learn acrobatics

Trubbish- Kelly has a track record of being very messy, so a Trubbish was made because of her.

Peter Ludlow the main antagonist of the movie version, Ludlow is the nephew of John Hammond.

Donphan- To reflect his relation with John Hammond, Ludlow has a Donphan to contrast with John's deceased mini Copperajah

Roland Tembo Like with Robert Muldoon, Roland Tembo has a full team of pokemon as he is a trained professional big game hunter. With the only exception being his Intelleon, his pokemon are caught in the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn's Safari Zones, and Sinnoh's Great Marsh. Another thing to note is that all of the members on his team are strictly male. This is because of him wanting the buck T. rex, and I assume the same goes with the rest of his captures. He only has one position left for the tyrantrum.

Intelleon- Roland uses a select range of tools and weapons to hunt dinosaurs in The Lost World. But he primarily uses his shot gun to try and kill the Tyrannosaurus

Dieter Stark If you don't remember this guy, I don't blame you. He was the guy who got attacked by the compies.

Electabuzz- in the scene where Dieter is shown with one compy, he shocks it. Electabuzz is known for being aggressive. It fits.

Dr. Robert Burke The paleontologist that was hired by Peter Ludlow. I didn't want to give him a competent team as he wasn't the smartest guy around.

Slowpoke- Because Dr. Burke is behind on paleontological information, he has a slowpoke that can learn dig to reflect that. It also gives him a valid reason to be afraid of a non-venomous snake pokemon like Snivy.

Retrospective Review - The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

The title of this film has always bugged me because it feels like it is inverted. This is the first Jurassic Park movie that I remember having seen in a movie theatre. At the time, I loved it but this was clearly a step down from the original classic. Upon rewatching it, my feelings are pretty much the same. This is a fun movie, but it is a relative disappointment when you compare it to the first, especially since it is made by Steven Spielberg, who was on fire in the 80's and 90's. He could virtually do no wrong, no matter what genre he tried. Upon rewatching it, this falls into the category of movies where the Dino action is tremendous but the characters, not so much.

The film's opening sequence is actually fairly horrifying. The little girl being attacked by Compies and the mother's scream leaves a lot to the imagination as to what happened. The film doesn't waste much time reintroducing Ian and Hammond and the new conflict with his nephew Ludlow, then shifting the action to a new Island. The concept of the story is interesting, with InGen wanting to take Dinosaurs off the island and profit off them on the mainland, while Hammond wants to keep the island separated and cut off from the human world. The film's strength is that it moves fast and we quickly get the InGen team, led by Roland, who are capturing Dinosaurs. Rewatching I forgot that actors like Julianne Moore, Vince Vaughn, and Richard Schiff were part of this movie.

Where the movie starts to really get fun is when the baby T-Rex is kidnapped and then its parents track down the baby and send Ian's trailer over the cliff. That entire sequence with the two Adult T-Rex's is gripping. The scene with Sarah on the cracking glass that is the only thing between her and plunge into the Ocean is a damn good scene. Eddie's death is also really gruesome. The Dino action throughout the film is pretty killer. Its obvious that the technology was refined some more and there was more fluid movement of the Dinosaurs, and the Stan Winston animatronics continued to be outstanding. The blend of CGI and Animatronics was superb. There is an entire sequence of Dieter getting pursued by and then eaten by dozens of Compies. We also get a full Velociraptor sequence towards the end of the second act. The last act of the movie, takes place in San Diego. Its a lot of fun to see the T-Rex create havoc in an urban environment. Its like a mini Godzilla movie in itself.

Where the film falls short is in the characters. While JP had a lot of likable characters and even villains who you really hate, the main characters of this film aren't particularly likable with Ian and Roland being the two exceptions. Both Sarah and Nick come off as stupid and incompetent with both making decisions that put people in severe danger and arguably indirectly cause the death of many. Sarah claims to be someone with expertise in dealing with Carnivores but is stupid enough to walk around in a blood soaked shirt that she knows is not drying. Also, Nick basically vanishes after being quite prominent in the first 2 acts. Given his role in the earlier part of the film, it doesn't make sense that he's not with Ian and Sarah in the last act. Roland is an interesting character but Ludlow is just a punchable wimp. Ian's daughter, Kelly, is also fairly annoying. The film has some weird narrative inconsistencies. Definitely the whole idea of their being a second island without fences is a bit contradictory to what we saw in JP, where were saw that the animals were being born in Nublar. Also, while quite entertaining, the last act feels a bit out of place in context to the rest of the film. The film never really explains what happens to the crew of the ship that crashes onto the dock. I know they got eaten but how, given the T-Rex was still trapped. Plus, how did the ship sail so far. Its all a bit lazy, which you don't expect from Spielberg.

The performances are fine. Jeff Goldblum ably slips back into Ian. Peter Postlewaite is excellent as the badass Roland. Julianne Moore and Vince Vaugh are solid enough. Richard Schiff is likable in his role. Its always great to see Richard Attenborough back, if only in a small role. Vanessa Lee Chester is ok as Kelly, as is Arliss Howard as Ludlow. Peter Stormare as Dieter is perfectly unlikable and you get a satisfaction when he gets killed.

All in all, this is still a fun film, especially for a Dinosaur fan. There is enough Dinosaur mayhem to enjoy and it never overstays its welcome. William's score is nowhere near as memorable this time around. For me, this ranks as a 7.5/10
