When the Queen of the Sea gets Nesting moods
Characters: Amphitrite + Poseidon + Kymopoleia + Percy + Triton and others to be added.
Amphitrite sometimes has the need to baby someone, that's her nesting cycle hitting her so she'll want to desperately take care, cuddle and love on someone. Usually it's her family, but sometimes others can also be involved!
“Po, come here! I know you want a cuddle!”
Amphitrite says open arms ready to bring comfort to her overworked husband who has been sulking for the entire day so far. Her mocha eyes are beaming at the sight of her sulking husbands, but Poseidon merely huffs again, looking at the big pile of scrolls that need his attention.
And had she been someone else, they would have already lost their patience by now. But Amphi knows that he doesn’t mean it.
And she’s also into one of her “babying moods” where she needs to baby anyone or anything she can lay her hands on. And if you happen to be in her eyesight during one of her infamous babying or otherwise nesting moods, you won’t be spared.
“There’s too much to do I can't-” He replies, standing from the desk in hopes that she will get the message that today he does want a cuddle but he needs to do what needs to be done first, like his brothers do.
He can’t allow this weakness of his to remove him from his duty as King. But at the same time, he feels stressed and tired and simply wants to remove everything and go back into the nest.He feels overwhelmed and simply wants to call it a day, but Zeus ordered him to do these treatises for the end of the week.
The Sea God puts his face into his hands and sighs, but then he feels the gentle yet firm hold of his wife around his midsection. Amphitrite puts her head on his back gently and holds him.
“Shhh it’s okay. Let it out of my love.” She encourages him, rubbing his back gently as the tears fall. Poseidon’s body shakes slightly as the stress he felt starts to leave his body.
He feels like he should do more and be better. He’s not a young God anymore, yet he is crying. He has a Kingdom to rule, His Children to take care of and protect, but he can’t hold it in anymore.
‘I’m sorry…I know I should be stronger, I-” Before he can say another word, he feels her press her lips onto the back of his neck gently and holds him tighter, to remind him that she’s here.
“Hush now my love.” Amphitrite gently guides him away from his desk and the office all the way to their private chambers where they can rest privately without being disturbed by counselors or messengers. “Let me take care of you.”
Only their children were allowed to enter then.
She pulls him into their room, closing the door behind her. And then she pushes him gently onto their nest and Amphitrite comes to lay beside him under the blankets. The Queen of the Sea smiles at her husband gently and pulls him into an embrace he had been desperately craving but not allowed himself to ask for.
She kisses his forehead gently and rocks him in her arms like one does with a frightened child, Amphitrite knows that it soothes him whenever he has nightmares or needs some deep comfort. Poseidon feels calmer now, he holds tightly onto his dear wife, and once she starts singing a lullaby in Atlantean, he feels his eyes drop from the exhaustion and finally lets sleep overtake him.
Knowing that she’ll be here once he wakes up.
On another day Amphitrite huffs as she tries to keep her patience at bay. Her husband, bless his heart, has been downright annoying. He kept complaining during the meeting with the Councillors of Atlantis.
The Queen of the Sea, while extremely sweet and gentle during this time of her nesting cycle, can also be more authoritative if the need arises. Just like the Sea, Amphitrite is extremely loving and kind, but then cross her the wrong way and you’ll be begging for mercy.
With Poseidon, it is different, she knows that when he’s being a grump or particularly annoying, there’s an underlying reason behind it. He doesn’t do it on purpose.
But, she won’t tolerate his behavior until he communicates to her what is wrong. Which he doesn’t do often…
“Poseidon, for the love of the Sea…” She says her tone isn’t harsh but her eyes give a hint as to her seriousness in the matter. She pinches the bridge of her nose as he continues to huff like a child.
The room got quiet as the mermen and Delphin surrounding the desk waited for approval to speak once more. Amphitrite eyes her husband, trying to understand what was wrong with him, but she couldn’t figure it out.
She sighs a bit but promises herself to get at the bottom of it.“Sorry Delphin, please continue.”
One time she had excused everyone out of an Olympian council to deal with her husband’s mood. No one dared to ask what she did to make him turn around in his humor, but after her intervention Poseidon had been completely focused and didn’t complain at all.
Zeus had thanked her personally, to which Poseidon rolled his eyes and pouted a bit.
The Sea God huffs for the fourth time during this meeting, and rolls his eyes as he pushes himself up in his seat. He’d rather be having a nap than staying here listening to the same old drama.
He feels his wife’s glare on him as the meeting continues. And he does pay attention, but not too much.
Delphin clears his throat and adjusts his uniform before he continues making his report on the next plans for Atlantis borders. When he finishes, Amphitrite smiles at the dolphin lieutenant.
“Thank you Delphin.” She knows Poseidon doesn’t care, so it’s useless to push the meeting further. “We’ll have to set another meeting for the orphanage with Benthesykime present since she’s the one who’s in charge of the family and children’s wellbeing program.”
The counselor nodded before taking their leave. They bow to their King and Queen, leaving the two royals together. Despite the meeting ending, Poseidon is still grumpy and not talking.
“What is wrong, Po?” She tries but he ignores her. Her tail stays still as he avoids her gaze. “My love, tell me.” She tries again softer, she knows that he might not respond well if she’s too harsh with him.
But then he huffs again, and still hasn’t answered her.
So she does what she thinks he wants but is too shy to ask for. She swims closer towards him and holds him. Her arms wrap around him tightly, and she kisses the tip of his head. Poseidon’s blushes slightly and Amphitrite smiles softly.
“You know you can ask for it when you need it.” She says as she holds him.
Poseidon finally relaxes in her grasp. Content that she knows what he needs and wants even when he feels like he cannot ask for it.
He was always a bit ashamed of his need for affection. He never shows it on Olympus, but here under the Sea he technically can, but he feels like he should be stronger.
He doesn’t know this, but the only reason why Amphitrite knows about his need for cuddles, is because Hades had told her back when they first got married.Otherwise he wouldn’t have said anything.
“I love you Amphi.” He finally says as she rubs a hand in his hair and her tail wraps around the back of his legs. He wraps his arms around her slim form and holds on tight. Amphitrite actually loves being so close to him and she affectionately calls this, his octopus phase when he needs to hold onto her like this.
Sometimes she’ll be working at her desk and he comes for cuddles which she gives him gladly.
“Anytime my love,” she says, before she gently and very subtly pokes him in the side which makes him giggle softly. “Next time I won’t be as gentle though.” His eyes widened a bit.
She retreats slightly from the cuddle to look at him dead in the eyes and gives him a big smile.
“Oh yes I would, if you refuse to ask for a cuddle again.” She kisses his cheek gently, her warning stays in the air for next time.
“Aw aren’t you a cute little one!” She cooed at the sea bass coming to swim in the palm of her open hand. The fish seemed comfortable and happy around the Nereid.
The Sea Bass even flopped onto its back as the Goddess rubbed its belly like one would do with a dog. She smiled down at the fish enjoying the fact that someone or something was letting her pet them and give them love.
“Is this normal?” Percy asked Triton, who had been busy training with one of his multiple tridents all morning. The Prince turned towards his baby brother and followed his gaze towards his mother.
“We are Sea deities Perseus, of course it’s normal for us to have a deep connection to the sea’s inhabitants.” He replied seemingly annoyed by such a question.
“Yeah I get that but she’s been sitting here petting this fish half an hour!” He said as he watched Amphitrite talking and cuddling with the sea bass in her grasp.
Triton glanced at his Mother, he was used to her nesting moods, Percy wasn’t. But still, he didn’t think anything was that out of the ordinary for her.
The mermen sighed, getting frustrated with his half surface spawn of a brother. He didn’t have time for this. “She’s in one of her nesting moods again.”
Percy looks up at him again. “Nesting moods?” He had never heard of that before.
Triton nodded, and had Percy not known the Merman this much he would have burst laughing at how serious he looked. “Yes… Every once in a while, she gets like this.” He motions for the Sea Goddess now petting multiple types of fish and smiling as they come to rest in her lap and both of her hands.
Triton shakes his head. “When Mother is like this, she needs to cuddle and nurture something or someone.” He shudders at the memory of being at the end of her smothering. He loves his Mother, with all his heart, but she won’t let you go if she can get her fins on you.
“Do not reject her affection if she does land her eyes on you. It really hurts her feelings when you do, and last time she destroyed half of the Atlantic coast.” He added patting his brother’s shoulder as he took his leave from the training area.
Percy looked back at the Sea Goddess enjoying the little fish surrounding her. She didn’t seem to register his presence and he was happy she didn’t. So he too left, before Amphitrite could see him.
Her youngest daughter came back Home not too long ago after spending a long time completely isolated in Poseidon’s old domains. It had happened due to yet another misunderstanding between them, and Kym had gone further this time and broke a piece of their Palace. Poseidon had been enraged then, and then Amphitrite could only watch saddened as their youngest baby made her way out slamming the coral door behind her.
It had taken them years to find her and convince her to come Home. The relationship between Father and Daughter was still tense even though Amphitrite saw how her dear husband tried hard to make amends. Kymopoleia was still pretty much isolated most of the time. She either stayed in her rooms all day, only coming out at night and sometimes for dinner. Or, she would simply ignore them and go somewhere alone.
It broke her mother’s heart to see that she didn’t have a good relationship with her as she did with her siblings. So on this day, Amphitrite who also was deep into her nesting instincts, was determined to bring her daughter out of her shell now that she was finally back.
Amphitrite went to Kymopoleia’s room only to find it empty. She sighed sadly, but then promptly started arranging some of her daughter’s belongings like her bed and placing her storm disk back on its stand.
Technically, they have servants who normally do this but Amphitrite does enjoy cleaning once in a while and cooking too. As she puts things back into their place, her hand stumbles upon something soft. She grabs it and smiles when she realizes what the object is.
Kym’s seahorse plushie. It’s worn since the time she made it for her, but it does appear that her youngest still sleeps with it and the thought makes Amphitrite happy. She very carefully places the plushie back onto one of Kym’s pillows and smiles at her work. But she doesn’t see the figure standing in the doorway.
Amphitrite turns around quickly and sees her youngest standing in the doorway. Her instincts are screaming inside as she takes in the sight before her. Her little pearl has bags under her eyes and seems a lot more quiet than usual. Before Kymopoleia can protest, her Mother is at her side in an instant, feeling her forehead with gentle care.
“Aww my Little Pearl, you’re not feeling well are you?” She says as she tries to refrain from taking Kym into her arms and smother her with all the love she possesses, knowing that her youngest daughter might not be ready for this much affection yet.
“I’m fine.” Her voice comes out quiet and hoarse, and she can’t help but press her hand onto her throat in hopes that it will soothe it, but it surely doesn’t.
Amphitrite’s heart shatters at the sight, but at the same time, she’s secretly happy that Kym doesn’t feel well because she might allow her to take care of her.
“It’s alright sweetie, I’m going to take care of you.” She takes her daughter’s hand into her own, gently pulling her away from her isolation, and towards the rooms she shares with Poseidon. So she can take care of her sick little one in the ‘Nest”.
The Goddess of Sea storms, takes in the sight, she hasn’t been in the new palace for long, but it seemed a lot more grand and elaborate than the one before. Kym silently hopes that they don’t run into Poseidon. The last thing she wants is to be seen while being so weak.
“Here,” Amphitrite says as she pulls the blankets and duvet open and then guides Kym into the huge bed. “Lay down for a moment, I’m going to make you some tea for your throat and prepare the potion for your fever.”
But she doesn’t dare to move, she hasn't been in the nest for so long.
Amphitrite turns as she expected her daughter to already be lying down and tucked in, but she stands behind her frozen, fidgeting with the hem of her dress. Amphitrite sighs once more. But her patience is everlasting.
“Come here little pearl, it’s okay.” She encourages her. And after a few moments, Kymopoleia finally accepts the invisible hand her mom is trying to give her. And she goes into the nest.
Aphitrite doesn’t waste time and pulls the blankets up and tucks her in gently. And she makes sure that the seahorse plushie sits next to her little one. Once Kym is tucked in enough for the Queen’s liking, the young goddess feels her mother’s long hair close to her face as she presses a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Kym can’t help but smile contently. She hopes it won’t be seen though. But it’s already too late, and Amphitrite smiles down at her without commenting, but she does run a gentle hand on her long hair as she stands back up. “I’ll be right back.”
A few hours after Kym took her medication she fell asleep, being a young goddess, the sickness took a toll on her. But once she woke up once more, she realized that she wasn’t completely alone.
Her Mother was right next to her watching her rest, and absentmindedly petting her hair gently while humming a lullaby. Kymopoleia struggled to open her eyes, and she felt a bit disorientated from the fever and malaise that came with the flu.
“Mama?” She called out, her voice was still quiet but the yearning for her Mom didn’t fall onto deaf ears.
Normally, she wouldn’t call her parents by the affectionate monikers of “Mama and Papa” considering their past, but now that she feels miserable, Kym only wants comfort and cuddles too. And Amphitrite can surely provide that for her.
Amphitrite suddenly stopped her petting at the call. It had been so long since Kymopoleia had called her Mama and it made her heart soar. “I’m here, my little pearl.”
Her hand comes down towards her daughter’s forehead and she makes a face feeling how hot she still was. But she knew from experience that it might take a few more hours for the fever to break.
A small whimper left the young goddess’s lips as she tried to move slightly in the bed but her body was heavy and her vision blurred from the exhaustion. But then, she felt her mom gently pulling her into her arms, holding her like she used to when she was much younger.
Amphitrite held her youngest close to her chest, cradling her like one does a small child and pressed a kiss on the top of her head. “Rest my love, Mama’s here.” She smiled softly when she felt Kym hold onto her dress tightly, and when she nuzzled into her neck.
She does not like seeing her little ones in pain, but she does love when she can hold them and cuddle them. Kym falls back asleep in her mom’s arms. Poseidon arrived later during the evening while their daughter was still asleep.
He smiled softly, not expecting such a sight, but he also felt relieved that Kym was finally coming out of her shell. He kissed Amphi on the lips, and then their daughter on the temple, before settling next to them into the nest.
He looks down at Kym’s sleeping form and silently hopes that she’ll open up to him too at some point.
