A reminder, even if you're exhausted with this election:
Check that your ballot is received and counted.
If there's an issue with it, see if you can fix it (cure your ballot).
It may not change the Presidency, but control of the House is still undecided and will be very close.
To say nothing of down ballot state and local races, which can also be very close, and will be the last sanctuaries against the nation-wide imposition of fascism under a Trump regime.
Also its your voice, its your right, and if we're about to lose it, by God don't give it up a moment sooner than you have to.
since the democratic national convention started tonight, i thought it was as good a time as any to make a little psa to all the gen z kids (like me!) who are going to (hopefully) be voting this october/november.
look, we all hate trump. we hate the racism, the homophobia, the violence, the fascism, all the bullshit we’ve been watching for four years. i get it.
i wanted to vote for bernie. i still do, and i bet a lot of you do too. i don’t want biden to be our president, not by a long shot, but i’d much rather have someone like him in office than someone who has a wet dream about being a dictator.
so when i register to vote (which you all need to do as soon as possible, if you haven’t already) and mail in my ballot i’m going to be voting for joe biden. not because i want to, or because i think he’s the best person to lead our country.
i’m going to vote for him because that’s who the people he ran to appeal to wanted, and who we’re stuck with. i’m voting for biden because i can’t see my community, my family be marked as something less than human because trump and his brainwashed, boot licking followers don’t like them.
so please, i’m begging you, don’t throw away your vote. vote for biden, because trump is so, so much fucking worse.
Indervidualistic politics really frustrates me, the 'everyone looks out for themselves' concept that neo-liberalism needs to survive.
mainly because it's utter bollucks, societies today are not at all far removed from collectivist tribes, the only difference is we refuse to accept it .
I would not be able to eat if it wasn't for the efforts of a farmer and a shopkeeper, they wouldn't have a house if it wasn't for a builder.
Society would be better if we stopped pretending that we're all living separate self sustaining lives and saw that we are all dependent on others, and that MAYBE we should treat EVERYONE with basic respect and dignity.
Another day, another fucked up policy that screws the talent for the sake of capitalism.
Which one’s your favorite so far? Mine was when Covid masks were forbidden because “it would upset the TV audience”
You niggas look dumb as hell celebrating like we just won the lotto. More like finding a $20 bill on the ground. I need to see:
increase in minimum wage,
student loan debt removal,
more funding for schools,
billionaires paying fair share of taxes,
eliminating records for ppl with minor possession of weed,
and/or a real plan for lower/middle class black ppl specifically. Until I see some of these ideas be explored and become real laws, I can only ignore what they say and watch what they do. But go off I guess🤷🏾♂️😒🤡
Hi Emma!! Can I ask you a political question? I’m just wondering what you think this year’s election is going to look like. I’ve seen a lot of people still have the ‘Bernie or Bust’ attitude and I’m honestly terrified. I don’t believe he will win. I wish people realized that two candidates with high votes during the primaries equals 2 people to vote for in November, which will likely result in a trump win. What’re your thoughts?
I’ve talked a little about my thoughts on the election here. There are going to be Bernie or Bust people who want to watch the world burn, but for those people who understand the stakes and that anything other than a vote for Biden is the equivalent of a vote for Trump in the current political environment, I feel that many will make the right choice in November. I also think that after the COVID response and the response to the protests, a lot of independents and moderate conservatives or never Trump Republicans will happily vote for Biden.
At the end of the day, everyone needs to recognize that it’s not about a single leader - trust me, Biden wasn’t my first (or second or third) choice either. It’s about the future of our democracy, which currently hangs on by a thread. It’s about the Supreme Court and the things that will be on the line if we get more conservative Supreme Court Justices (LGTBQ+ rights, abortion rights, health care). It’s about having a president who actually believes in science and climate change and will take steps to mitigate it. It’s about having a president who doesn’t isolate our nation because he’s more interested in the facade of American superiority and befriending authoritarian leaders than working with others for a better world. It’s about having a president who respects and fights for the rights of minorities. It’s about having a president who protects voting rights instead of limiting them for anyone who isn’t white or conservative.
If you’re worried for the election, make sure you’re doing your part to help. Donate money and time if you’re able to. If you have friends or family members who believe in the Bernie or Bust thing, encourage them to recognize the stakes and to focus their attention on races beyond just the presidency. Don’t forget to fight to elect progressive Senators and Representatives, members of your state Congress, and local leaders. Be an activist and help push Joe Biden further to the left - we’ve already had some success at this already.
The country is different than it was even four years ago and Biden, despite his faults, is actually running the most progressive campaign of any Democratic nominee in history. And guess who has the power to push him further to the left? We do. We have that power, but first we have to get Trump out of the White House....and we also have to focus more of our attention on electing progressive leaders down the ballot. This is on all of us.
Should have worn your masks and not held crowded rallies.
I mean come on. You had the proof, you ignored it. This is karma at its finest
