I know I’m a small blog but if you live in the US, please take 5 minutes to write to congress with the link below to support fair compensation for graduate students and postdocs.

We do a lot of work and get paid very little, despite teaching university classes and doing research on the very frontiers of our fields (I have to prove my thesis is new, useful work before they’ll give me a PhD). Both of these are huge sources of revenue for universities, and we don’t see enough of that.

I know grad students who live in their cars, skip meals for money, and put off necessary medical costs.

Tell congress we need guidelines now for fair compensation.

I have noticed feelings of bitterness/resentment when I encounter anything related to Oxbridge, so I am needing to remind myself: 1. Cambridge approved/accepted me! and 2. I can't go carry out my project because of a small group of people from random institutions across North America gathered by the Canadian government Tri-Council arbitrarily chose based on their preferences who they wanted to give funding to after PM Carney cut the budget.
