I think a lot of arguments about eugenics in abortion miss the fact that some parents are not equipped to raise a disabled child and will raise an abled child no matter what kind of child is born. Parents—especially mothers—only have certain lengths they will go to to help their children before they cannot help anymore.
My mother was not equipped to raise an autistic child and I would not be equipped to raise an autistic child. I am proudly child-free but that was not an option for my mother, who still failed me while trying her absolute best. Even then, she has mental health struggles exacerbated by having children with various disabilities who cannot return the care she provided when she ages.
It's not ableism to take on the personal challenges you are capable of handling.
