People are missing out by ignoring the Marauders' flaws and turning them into made up characters.
You're telling me you'd rather paint them as perfect teens who knew all that would happen in the future so much as to bully a random kid they met in their first year? Well, they must have a divination gift. The marauders didn't have an actual reason to justify their abuse.
But the fact that they made bad, bad, BAD choices doesn't mean you can't like them as characters. Hell, you can milk the fact that it all fell apart due to mistrust: They didn't trust Remus and that's why they changed it to Peter, Peter was the true death eater, that resulted in James dying.
Why not START there?? It's so interesting and it's just a small part of their lives? How about what brought Peter to become a death eater? Or how Sirius got technically stuck in the mind of a teen because of all his time in Azkaban? Remus' isolation after and while the war was happening? How James got to go out with Lily? Which is something HARRY himself wonders.
It's ok to like them if they're not the saint/hero portrait the fandom gives them, they're human after all. Painting everything black and white to make Severus the "big bad" also takes away that the Marauders have character.
You can leave snape out of the conversation since your understanding of a character wrt classism and poverty seems to be in gutters anyway. Go back to playing dress dolls with marauders

You will never see me defending the marauders for bullying snape, there is no excuse for what they did. HOWEVER, it is just the fact that they changed. They grew up, they matured, and they actively worked against the dark lord, meanwhile snape became his right hand man.
Snape was okay if an infant and his innocent father died, also if voldemort had gone after neville's family he literally wouldn't have cared!!! He called his "best friend" a racist slur in front of the whole school. He refused to give up a teenage grudge even if people lost their lives over it. (In PoA he was hell bent on getting sirius caught and giving him to the dementors, knowing what they do)
"but he hated sirius!" He's a fucking 30 year old man.
Meanwhile james, at 15, saved snape's life. He disliked snape too, didn't he?
And that's just what he did to the marauders, there is a LONG list of instances where he bullied his students. You hate an eleven year old because his father married your crush??? So you try to make his already hard life even harder? You bully neville to the extent that you become his greatest fear? Bullying hermione for what, being enthusiastic in class? Her appearance??? Like this is a man who did not grow up.
So yeah, i would rather "play dress dolls with the marauders" than defend an immature racist bully.

one thing i genuinely don’t understand is like
okay there are marauders fans and pro-snape (anti-marauders?) fans, and like, nice, people have different views and this are literally characters (most of whom barely even appear) in fiction but like why do they not only hate but seem to sometimes actively try to go against each other like can’t they coexist and just not interact and leave each one be?
because i understand that from an entirely canonical perspective, the marauders (especially james and sirius) were FAR from saints, but i also understand that pretty much the entirety of the marauders fandom stems from entirely fictional ideas from these fictional characters, like the marauders & co. are pretty much OCs at this point (within the marauders fandom) and i think that comparing them to canon is just kind of unfair? like they are literally different characters at this point, only with the same name
i see why snape fans would hate the canonical marauders, but i don’t see why they seem to hate the fan-made marauders, or the people who enjoy said fan-made marauders
i just really don’t understand the overall hate sorry please don’t come for me
