The Kickstarter campaign to back Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas's "The Three Musketeers" ends on Saturday, July 15th, at 10:15 AM Eastern Time - as of the time I'm posting this, there's only 48 hours left to back!

For this collection, we recruited 20 authors and 16 artists who love Athos, Porthos, Aramis, d'Artagnan, Milady, Madame Bonacieux, and the whole gang from Dumas's wonderful historical melodrama. These creators' mission was simple: take this long-adored story and make it queer! The result is an amazing collection of works exploring the nuances of these characters, delving into issues of identity, gender, and sexuality—telling and retelling a story we all know and love.

Meet Stephen Granade, author of "Sliders Aren't for Gender"

Stephen Granade (they/he) is a physicist and writer from Huntsville, Alabama. Their stories have appeared in Strange Horizons, Escape Pod, and Baffling Magazine. They’re the co-editor of Small Wonders, a SFF flash fiction and poetry magazine. Their game, Professor of Magical Studies, is available from Choice of Games. What inspired "Sliders Aren't for Gender"?

I don't like how lots of people who get real excited about transhumanism and uploaded humans gloss past gender, race, and class, by which they mean that everything will be viewed through a default White, straight, cis, mostly-male lens. I wanted to try my hand at writing an uploaded humans story that didn't fit in that. Plus I did my time in academia and I love writing fiction in that mode.

My story, "The Jaxicans' Authentic Reconstruction of Taco Tuesday #37," is out in Strange Horizons. I'm also the co-editor of Small Wonders, a SFF magazine for flash fiction and poetry.
