AAC in Animal Crossing

I'm working on making the homepages of different AAC apps for the Animal Crossing tablet item! You can edit the tablet with customization kits to have a custom design, so you can put your AAC device in your home or around the island.

So far I have LAMP, Proloquo2Go, TD Snap Core First, and TouchChat done. I'll be adding more soon.

You do not have the right to touch someone's disability aid without asking, whether that aid be a wheelchair or an AAC device.

"It's just a tablet, though." No, it is not. It is my voice. Touching or moving my device without my permission is like touching my mouth without permission, it's weird, gross, invasive, and rude. Stop.

Pushing someone's wheelchair without permission is like picking them up and moving them out of the way eithout permission, its weird, invasive, gross, and weird. Stop.

Got my AAC device in the mail yesterday same week me speech therapist requested it! I am so so happy and exited about it!

I busted into my savings and bought the LAMP keyguard.

Maybe it's my impulsive ADHD brain talking, but I love this app so much. I used it when I was out with my community staff today, and she was very patient waiting the extra long time for me to fumble around forgetting everything I've been practising.

I love the tippy tap sound of the buttons so much, and love how fast I can say things when I know where the buttons are for the thing I'm saying. It feels so minimalist compared to my proloquo2go pages, which are screen after screen full of buttons that I hardly ever use, slowing down my hunt for the buttons I want.

I'm realising that when I was putting my P2G boards together, I fell into the trap of adding every vocabulary word I know, and sometimes repeat words in different places for different meanings, like I have "present" in "time" and in "holidays". LAMP expects you to be creative and know that the same word can have multiple meanings, and to remember where to find the word when it's grouped with the meaning you aren't thinking about right now.

I've heard (I think from people here) that there's a steep learning curve, but that it's so easy when you get the hang of it.

It'll be two weeks until the keyguard arrives, and I'll keep practicing hard in the meantime!

Almost 5 years now since nonverbal/nonspeaking…and its gotten to the point where my internal monologue and thoughts are so loud in my head that it almost tricks me into thinking I’ve just spoken for the first time in years so I dart my eyes over to my caregiver only to realize its painfully obvious she didn’t even hear or turn around to see that I had spoken since it was all in my head…hyperphantasia has insanely amplified the internal voice in my own head that my thoughts are almost indistinguishable from me physically audibly hearing it. The thing is…I hear my internal voice as my Scott teenage AAC voice on Proloquo2Go.

TLDR: please please people stop saying you wish you were actually nonverbal…you don’t you really don’t…if you like hearing the butter soft sound of your voice out loud you will miss it. I guarantee it.
