Rangda!
Not my usual, but I had to draw her again after a long time!
In an oracle in Philosophia ex oraculis, Porphyry describes a disturbing image of Hecate that synthesizes and fully justifies her epithet of queen of the demons of underworld: she is the virgin goddess of many faces, cruel, with three bull’s heads, holding the three symbols of the elements of nature and earth, governed by her black dogs, the demons of underworld. Porphyry describes analytically some symbols related to the goddess, represented with a candle of three colours, white, black and red, which represent the earthy and material element, while the candle itself represents the nocturnal or lunar feature of the goddess. Next to it, Hecate holds a whip with which she dominates and terrorizes the infernal demons. Elsewhere, the goddess can be represented with a sword to which a snake is twisted, holding a key symbolizing the control on the doors of underworld and the access or exit from Hades.
- Giuseppe Muscolino, Porphyry and Black Magic (emphasis in bold is my own)
I'm spotlighting this because back when I was around 18 I told someone that red, black, and white were my colours, and I knew that they were the colours of Rangda, and at some point I were told they were the colours of Kali. Possibly a coincidence, but such strong resonance!
Probably been asked before because it seems rather random (As far as I know), but why Barong + Rangda = Shiva?
This is a classic question that has a definitive (and official) answer!
Translation here.
Why does the fusion of Rangda and Barong result in Shiva?
Both gods originate from the island of Bali and since they are rivals, their personalities are polar opposites. Ranga is dark, Barong is light so obtaining Shiva (the god of destruction and creation) from their fusion is valid.
Barong my beloved divine beast.
Rangda is also cool as fuck.
These ancient rivals shall battle forevermore.
Sorry for another request so quickly but uh, Rangda? They're one of my favorite demon designs, especially their magic animation in p5
I never actually use her but I do think she’s an awesome demon
Bali OC with Barong and Rangda
Xiao Wen, my 🇨🇳 friend drew Bali OC(typical hetalia), that kind of unbelievable and made me so moved🗿 The OC name is I Gede Arnawa (In Balinese culture, an "I" is placed before a name to indicate a male, Gede means firstborn boy and Arnawa means sea) We knew each other from my two Hetalia chibi artwork about American 'TikTok Refugees' migrate to another Chinese app called Xiahongshu as ban looms, which the artwork got a lot of attention, so that lead me al luck to know her. Then I gave her this :) She has ever visited in Bali, and this artwork I also want to introduce more Balinese cultures, which I actually miss watching the fight between Barong and Rangda🗿The battle between Barong and Rangda is a dance drama that symbolizes the eternal struggle between good and evil in Balinese culture, which essentially coexist. Both are given immortality, so the fight between them never ends. Their equally powers trigger an endless fight, where there s no winner. Both good and evil can't be removed from human life, in the spiritual beliefs of the Balinese Hindu, there s a concept "Rwa Bhineda" which literally means two differences that work harmoniously, human life depends on the balance between two opposing forces. Welcome to Bali🪷
