Did you know carbohydrates are the body’s main source of energy and help fuel our brain and muscles? Our bodies need adequate amounts of carbs, protein, fat (macronutrients) and vitamins and minerals (micronutrients) to function at its best. . The term processed food has made its way into the media via diet culture to insinuate fear around certain foods but I’m here to let you know that all foods nourish your body, even processed food! According to the USDA processed food is defined as any raw agricultural commodity that had been subject to washing, cleaning, milling, cutting, chopping, heating, pasteurizing, blanching, cooking, canning, freezing, drying, dehydrating, mixing, packaging, and other procedures that alter the food from its natural state. So that means milk, washed and cut fruit & veggies, nuts, rice, legumes, beans, packaged meat, tofu, etc. all fall under processed food. This granola bar is considered a “highly processed carb heavy food” but I’m still enjoying it and it’s nourishing my body! . Depriving your body of a macro or micronutrient for the sake of “eating clean” isn’t necessary!
