Bought a new baby :3

It’s a red maranta (maranta leuconeura) which is a type of prayer plant! These guys are actually so much more interesting than I thought so I’m gonna be yapping??!

So first of all, sometimes they grow little flowers. Idk how long it’ll take for mine to get one but we’ll see

Another thing is that during the night the leaves move or fold to more of a vertical position. And then during the day they’re more horizontal. So the picture above is during the day, and then the picture below is during the night!!

I think that’s really cool!!

The leaves can also get up to 8 inches long?! Soo if it starts getting a little big I’m gonna have to move it somewhere off my desk loll

And then its leaves actually start growing rolled up with their underside facing out. Then they’ll eventually open up later. Theres one leaf like that on mine if you look close to the middle sticking straight up!!

Of all plants that I have outside, I never would have predicted that my maranta would have thrived! The texas heat doesn't seem to bother it at all!

This red maranta has loved the last few months in my bedroom window. Here’s hoping it likes the corner of my desk, too, so I can keep it out here where I actually look at my plants. If it starts to decline, it’ll go back into the bedroom.

Today while repotting my red maranta I FOUND TWO FLOWERS BLOOMING!!! They rarely if ever bloom indoors unless under specific conditions! I didn’t even consider the possibility of my maranta blooming especially because I’ve been worried about it and I didn’t think I gave it the best conditions or enough light, but I am ECSTATIC! I could actually cry tears of joy!😭
