It’s been a long time coming, honestly. My health journey has been long and hard, and I am hopeful that I can finally get back on track toward better health.
I’m not going to do a really long account of my entire health history with you, but if you’re curious on the highlights, they’re under the cut.
I wasn’t terribly fat growing up, just normal chunky. I started really putting on the weight at 16 and I noticed that my periods had stopped. Growing up I didn’t have health insurance. My family was poor and my parents didn’t think it was necessary for me to have. I was able to get on government insurance and see a doctor at 17 years old when I was 280 pounds and diagnosed with insulin resistance (basically prediabetes, though I had no idea at the time) and PCOS.
I didn’t fix anything, I lost my health insurance, and ended up reaching 315 pounds at 21 years old. Again, I didn’t really change anything substantially (you’ll notice a theme of that) and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at 23. I was also diagnosed with high cholesterol (really only my triglycerides).
At 25 years old I got pregnant after 7 years of trying to conceive but I lost her in my second trimester and had a missed miscarriage. During that time I was diagnosed with high blood pressure (stress related) as well as stage 2 chronic kidney disease.
At 27 I went out for a night of partying with my best friend at the time and ended up contracting mono from him. It got complicated and I got left with not only mono but a rare comorbidity called erythema nodosum which got even more complicated and resulted in ulcers on my lower legs (either pyoderma gangrenosum or necrobiosis lipoidica, we’re not sure yet).
Now here I am at 30. Health conditions galore. Ulcers on my legs. I am fed up. I have regrets. But I am more than ready for this change. And it starts tomorrow morning.
Starting Weight: 226.0 pounds as of November 9th. (Weigh in tomorrow.)
Imagine your health! That’s what’s more important here in my opinion. Cutting back on sugars will make you healthier which will make you lose weight. ▫️ My hubby reversed Type 2 Diabetes in only 6 months of keto and is overall healthier. I lost 38 pounds in 6 months and overall feel better. ▫️ DO IT FOR YOUR HEALTH! . . . #ketoworks #ketoworksforme #fightingdiabetes #reversingdiabetes #ketodiet #ketowoe #ketolife #ketotransformation #ketoweightloss #gettinghealthy #gettinghealthier #mexicanketojourney https://www.instagram.com/p/B4ErSLmgAu4/?igshid=r05d6dujysyv
Getting that last work-week workout smashed! The time down there is stupid slow, but I’m working with extremely sore quad muscles and I’m adding steeper inclines every time, which is increasing my difficulty without being over strenuous! I also had a good warmup mile on the elliptical and worked on some leg machines to try to loosen the sore muscles in my legs 🏋🏽♀️ In other news, the gym officially has new owners, so we’ll see how much things change with the new guys in charge. 👀 Depending on the weather, I should have my April 5K to do tomorrow morning - but the threat of some severe storms might just postpone or cancel any outdoor running I was planning on. In any case, I’ll be working out in some way: be it in a 5K or at the gym. I’ve got to keep working toward my #FitnessGoals! THIS IS WHY I LOVE KETO❗️ And this is why I want to spread the keto word! ▫️ I had no idea what GKI was until @arellano3603 commented on an earlier post where I posted my glucose and ketone levels that my GKI is 2.56 and that it’s very good. ▫️ I’m on day 4 from new starting point and I’m already in the beneficial stage of keto! ▫️ WE NEED TO SPREAD THE KETO WORD! How else do you eat delicious satisfying food and lose weight and get healthier?!? ▫️ There are so many people suffering and medicated for life when they don’t have to be! So many people just living how they are because they have been told by their physician that they will live like that and be medicated for life! Just like my husband! ▫️ Hubby was diagnosed with full blown type 2 diabetes where his sugar blood levels were at what they call a slow suicide level! His doctor told him that no way of eating and exercise will make him better and that he will be on meds for life! ▫️ Hubby refused to accept that and refused the meds. Hubby reversed diabetes after 6 months of keto! ▫️ Now my hubby may not get the levels I got today as soon as 4 days because every body is different. But even if it’s takes double or even triple the amount of time it took me, isn’t it still worth it to gain your health back?!? YES!!! ▫️ Hubby was feeling miserable every single day before we started keto. He couldn’t even play with our kids and would come home from work and go lie down! Now he’s always wanting to do something and has the energy to be active even after a long day at work. ▫️ If you are thinking about starting keto, DO IT! If you started and got overwhelmed and didn’t go back, DO IT! Start with keto basics. If you are doing keto and want to give up, KEEP GOING because it’s definitely worth it! ▫️ There, rant over. 😎 . . . #rantover #keto #ketogeniclife #reversingdiabetes #fightingdiabetes #ketogenic #ketolife #ketowoe #ketowayoflife #ketogenicliving #ketoforlife #ketotransformation #ketoweightloss #ketosis #ketones #healthierlife https://www.instagram.com/p/BrWqJBJAQnc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1euw0butr21l5
THANK YOU ALL! ❤️ I have learned so much from so many of you and I am glad that many of you have messaged me that I have inspired you or that you have learned from me. ▫️ Because hubby has reversed diabetes with keto, it is very important to me to spread the keto word. ▫️ If I can lead one person to be overall healthy or to reverse diabetes, I am more than happy. ▫️ Thank you for following me, for your comments, for your messages, your tips, your inspiration. ▫️ Keto is definitely a life changer and I thank God that he led us to this way of eating and to this great keto community. . . . #tuesdaymotivation #tuesdaytransformation #keto #ketogenic #ketofamily #ketocommunity #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #reversingdiabetes #fightingdiabetes #diabetes #themagicpill #drfung #intermittentfasting #healthbenefits #eatfat #eatfatlosefat #weightlossjourney #ketotransformation #ketolife #ketolifestyle #lowcarb #lchf #hflc #lchfdiet (at Laredo, Texas)
I am rocking this fasting and ketovore thing! Day two but I feel a lot better than yesterday. Blood sugar this morning was 340. I fasted for 13 hours and broke my fast with two baked chicken legs and two baked chicken wings from Safeway. Roasted chicken never tasted so good! I also had a mozzarella and procutto roll up that I hated. I have two more hours of work and then I can go home. I will take my blood sugar when I get home and make some Aidells sausage and probably some broccoli. Or I may keep it dirty carnivore, who knows!
The only thing that feels sub par is my legs hurt a little bit and I am having some allergy or cold symptoms. Maybe keto flu? I will have some of my electrolyte powder when I get home, and I have another brand of electrolyte powder on order that I am excited to try. It should be here in a few days.
I also signed up for Diathrive supply subscription again so I never have to worry about buying strips. Things are feeling promising today.
I thought about just updating tomorrow, but no. I need to be consistent.
I fasted to just over 18 hours. My blood sugar was 284. I made four eggs and had roughly 8 ounces of kielbasa. Then I took a nap because I have been feeling so run down lately, likely due to my blood sugar. When I woke up it was 307. I picked up my husband from work and we got McDonald's which I had three bacon McDoubles with only cheese, mustard, mayo and pickles. I also had some diet coke, a couple bites of a McFlurry and a couple pieces of almond milk chocolate. So no, I didn't stay carnivore but it was still keto at least which is a win for day one.
The ultimate determining factor is my blood sugar. Hoping for a lower number in the morning and an even lower number when I break my fast.
At this point, I am in a lot less pain from my leg ulcers so that is a good sign.
