He'd have an internal monologue about how the Church is losing the respect of the masses since people would joke about something so lightly. But by the end of the monologue it would be clear that, hypothetically, if he wasn't the one to pilot it with Benitez then he would cry and cry and cry and cry.

If you showed the meme to Benitez then he would say after only a brief pause that he would want Lawrence to pilot it with him, if such a situation did arise (he can recognise the harmless joke), but Lawrence is in the room and hears it and it becomes clear that if Lawrence Was the one to pilot it with Benitez, then he would also cry anyway (sample of the internal monologue: he is older than Benitez and his health is less sound. how would he be worthy to share his thoughts with Pope Innocentius. God grant him the strength to bear the burden etc.).
