⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 64mm | 1/800s | f/6.3 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 04/04/2021.⁣ ⁣ Piantivello lies in the Langa Astigiana in the southernmost part of the Asti province.⁣ ⁣ What struck me most when I visited this hamlet – so tiny that Instagram doesn't recognise it as a location in its own right – was the brown shutters, an architectural feature that you will find in other historic villages like Roccaverano, Mombaldone and Olmo Gentile, and the red brick roofs.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Unsurprisingly, there are no bus services in and around Piantivello. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 50mm | 1/800s | f/5 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 04/04/2021.⁣ ⁣ Roccaverano is the highest village in the province of Asti, renowned for its 'Robiola di Roccaverano' DOP Piedmontese cheese which is made from 100% raw goat's milk.⁣ ⁣ King of the wild and hilly 'Langa Alta' area, Roccaverano is also one of the stops on the 'Giro delle Cinque Torri' (Tour of the Five Towers) circular hiking trail that starts from Monastero Bormida.⁣ ⁣ When will this awesome ancient village join the exclusive club of Italy's most beautiful villages? 🤔⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ No buses or trains reach Roccaverano. ⁣ ⁣ The closest railway station is Mombaldone, 9km away but a long way down from Roccaverano! ⁣ Canon Powershot SX730 HS ⁣ Taken on 12/05/2020.⁣ ⁣ Il 'Giro delle Cinque Torri' – known as the 'Tour of the Five Towers' – is an excellent 30km-long circular hiking route that I did last May — fitting for #throwbackthursday! It leads to five lookout towers in the ancient, charming hamlets of Monastero Bormida, San Giorgio Scarampi, Olmo Gentile, Roccaverano and Vengore.⁣ ⁣ It is an annual event organised by 'il Club Alpino Italiano' in Acqui Terme who came up with this route that takes you through wonderful woodlands and picturesque vineyards in the Alta Langa Astigiana area. This helped me out massively as some parts of the route felt like a neverending climb!⁣ ⁣ My favourite village was Roccaverano – the highest village in the province of Asti standing at over 800 metres above sea level – because it is isolated on a big hill separating the two Bormida valleys and it is surrounded by towers that have defended the village up to the present day.⁣ ⁣ Roccaverano certainly had a mythical atmosphere that seeped through its silent stone streets, dominating Renaissance church and imposing tower that was definitely worth climbing up despite the heavy gusts of wind I came up against — something I won't ever forget!⁣ ⁣ As far as I'm aware, there aren't any buses that take you to Roccaverano.
