You know what duffle bags are responsible for, they made me quite dislike Robin in Season 5.

Because of the constant stupid dick jokes that I haven’t heard any lesbian, closeted or otherwise say in my vicinity ever.

And because they let a neurodivergent person who’s bad at reading social cues to influence poor impressionable Will into friend-zoning himself with that Tammy business.

And then they broke her up with Vicky. Why?!

She was so great the whole time until season 5, just absolutely stupidly destroyed her character…

Will and Robin's friendship is the best thing to come out of S5, mainly because it is so healthy for both of them and each provides the other with exactly what they need at this time in the story.

For Will, he's not that scared little kid from S1 and 2 anymore. He has grown into his own skin, gotten comfortable with his powers as a spy, and is a valuable member of the Core 4 with his experiences and knowledge. However, people like his mother still coddle him and assume he's fragile because of all the suffering he's been through. Robin doesn't do that. Robin immediately cuts through all the bullshit and sees Will as this extremely strong and powerful human being, and I think that is so empowering to see.

For Robin, she's never had the ability to talk about her sexuality so openly. With Steve she's been able to connect with him on some level because of their shared interest in women, but Will's entrance is the first time that Robin is able to give advice and coaching to someone who is just like her. Will is her chance for a do-over in a sense, to give the support that she wished she could have had as a kid in coming out and accepting your feelings, especially in the 80s.
