Avengers assemble
Why does everyone in the MCU expects Peter to be the next Iron Man? Leave the poor kid alone, he's firstly a Spider-Man before anything else. Have you didn't think on Rhodey or Pepper? And no touching with Morgan, she's still a child and she deserves a good childhood after her father's death.
Tony: One time I was with a friend and...oh wait, that was you.
Rodhey: Yeah I figured, you have no other friends.
Imagine that in A4...
Tony and Pepper got married. And it was great, really, even though Tony still spends so many nights closed on his lab, trying to find a way to bring Peter and the rest back. Five years after snap they got their first child, and for once in a long time Tony is genuinely happy. Not only that, he also feels hopeful.
But happiness didn't last for long. Not a week after their birth the baby is diagnosed with a terminal heart disease, caused by a remmanent of Extremis in both of his parents. Tony's World crumbles, despair swallowing him. There is nothing he could do, not even an arc reactor, Pepper wouldn't allow him that.
He can't stay away from the baby. He built an entire NICU room with top tech and got the best pediatrics and nurses he could get. If he's not in his lab he's with his baby, holding them, singing, talking... Sometimes crying.
The rest of the Avengers told him they need him to defeat Thanos. Pepper told him that his obsession with their child is getting unhealthy. She doesn't want to see them, she knows she would break down if she did. But Tony can't bear staying away from his child, his baby, the person he loved the most in the world. But he knows Thanos is still there, and they need to defeat him.
So, one night, before setting his baby back in the incubator, he asked them to stay alive, to keep being as strong as they are, to wait for him to defeat the mad titan, to hold on just a little while longer...
They defeated Thanos, they won, his friends are back. For a second time, Tony felt happiness in his heart while hugging Peter. They were back, they finally did it.
The night they got back to Earth, he goes to the NICU room, where his baby rested. They were still alive, but so weak, their little battle weared them down. Just like Tony. He picked the baby, clutching him against his scarred chest, careful that any IV or cable moved too much.
"I'm here, little one, now I'll never be away from you"
Three hours later, Peter and Rodhey were looking for Tony to start the party. They found father and child dead in their sleep, both from a heart failure.
