@gifevents 1: New Beginnings Day 7. How it Started vs. How it's Going: Reign (S1E1 vs S3E5)
TV RECOMMENDATIONS #1:
SHOWS LIKE:
Are you going to miss High Potential during the midseason break? #same. But don't you worry, the lover of quirky detectives (me! 👋) is here to give you some tv recs to keep you entertained while we wait for the return of season 2. Here are 4 current (and new-ish) tv series that give off High Potential vibes. Please, give them a chance. Hope you enjoy them!🫰
(no spoilers, I promise)
WILD CARDS (2 seasons. Renewed for S3 & S4): This is probably the show that is more like High Potential on this list. If you only give one of this shows a chance, let it be this one because they really have a lot in common (in a good way). Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan) is a spirited con-woman that ends up working with the police as a consultant in order to reduce her father's sentence. While Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) is a sorta disgrace (framed and demoted) and a by-the-book (and kinda grumpy) Detective who ends up partnering up with Max in order to get his old job back and solve his brother's murder. The relationship between the two main leads is very Morgan & Adam at times but also so much more. You think Morgan & Adam are down bad for each other? Just wait until you meet these two. Fun fact: both Daniel Sunjata (Karadec) and Giacomo Gianniotti (Ellis) were in Grey's Anatomy for some time. This show is available to stream for free on The CW app or you can also find it in Prime Video if you have a subscription there. (PS: Ellis has a cat)
POKER FACE (2 seasons. Pending renewal): Another show that shares some similarities with High Potential. Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) is a human lie detector who has to go on the run after her gift ends up getting her in trouble with the wrong people. While on the run she ends up stumbling on many cases she can't help but solve. With every episode we get a new setting and a new cast of characters with just a handful of recurring characters. Their guest star game is honestly top tier. If you enjoy Morgan's outfits or just Morgan in general, then Charlie is gonna be your new bestie. This show is available to stream on Peacock with a subscription. (PS: Charlie's car is awesome)
MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN (2 seasons. S2 ongoing) But if you want your quirky detective to be a man and you like cozy crime/cozy mysteries (or just Kristin Kreuk in general) then I recommend Murder in a Small Town. Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) is a very smart, intuitive, and detail oriented Detective who moved to a coastal town after being battered by big city police work (and some family drama) but crime seems to have followed him there. Cassandra Lee (Kristin Kreuk) is a librarian who moved back home and is trying to get her town to be how she remembers it and so much more. S2 is currently airing on FOX but you can also stream it on Hulu/Disney+ if you have a subscription. (PS: the two main leads love art)
WILL TRENT (3 seasons. S4 coming in January): Another ABC option is Will Trent. Ramón Rodríguez stars as Special Agent Will Trent, a man who was abandoned at birth and grew up in the Atlanta foster care system. He has dyslexia but that has never stopped him from being the best in his field, even if he alienates a few people on the way. He has a cute little Chihuahua named Betty and she's honestly the star of the show no doubt about it. If you like High Potential's ensemble cast you can also find something very similar here. Will also has something going on that is very similiar to Morgan's imagination sequences. Fun fact: both Murder in a Small Town and Will Trent are based on book series. This show is available to stream on Hulu/Disney+ with a subscription and is coming back alongside High Potential S2b. (PS: Will basically adopted a non-binary teenager)
Feel free to add some of your own suggestions so I can check them out during the hiatus. Please and thank you! 🙏🫰
