Undertale Sans Headcanons: What soul trait they personally like and/or find attractive

Undertale - Sans
Perseverance
This is a man that likes to live peacefully. He's laid back and takes things slow. Some might say that he's a little too slow. Stagnant.
While Underground, he lost his will. He didn't have much purpose beyond taking care of his brother because he saw no point in having a purpose. He couldn't push through anymore.
He's familiar with soul traits. He used to work with someone who studied them intensely. And Alphys knows more about them than any other person in the world, nevermind the Underground.
He knows about Perseverance. Pushing through and moving on despite the setbacks and the hardships. It's resilience in it's truest form, and to Sans, it's a complete pipe dream. Yet, there are people out there who are defined by it.
They've gone through their own hardships and maybe they ended up as disheartened as he is. But they're still here, despite everything, and they carry on. They wake up in the morning. They may not get out of bed, or even open their eyes, but they still pushed through and woke up. He finds that more admirable than anything else in the world.
Underfell - Red
Kindness
When you come from a world that whole heartedly believes in 'kill or be killed', any form of kindness is seen as alien and more importantly, weak.
Back in the Underground, Red would have laughed at the concept of being kind. It's stupid, it's weak, and it's what gets people killed. He cannot afford to give or accept kindness.
Plus, he has a reputation to uphold.
It'll take a while but he can change his mind. He'll start to wonder how someone can afford to be kind. How can someone be so selfless and good that it becomes the core of who they are? And to be able to stand by that goodness, to be able to stay true to who they are despite the warped world around them?
A Kindness soul is physical evidence of a concept so foreign, he didn't think it was even possible. Yet it's staring at him in the eyes with a nice smile and a pretty face. Maybe being kind isn't so bad.
Underswap - Blue
Blue likes all soul traits.
He doesn't have a single preference because there's something in each trait he finds admirable.
Instead of liking a single trait, he likes that humans have traits at all. Monster souls don't have defining traits. They're made up of love, hope, and compassion which manifests as white. It's not possible for them to be any other colour (unless they absorb a human soul).
Humans on the other hand have an entire rainbow of colours. They are able to have a characteristic so strong, it literally makes them who they are. And he loves discovering what makes people, well, people.
Meeting humans is like a puzzle. The more you get to know them, the more you find out what makes them so unique. You get close with them and before they know it, they're best friends with the most magnificent skeleton in the universe.
It gives him two of the best feelings in the world: solving a puzzle and making a friend.
Dancetale - Hop
Integrity
The act of dancing is the purest form a monster can take. While the body is the physical form of a monster, dancing is the manifestation of the self. It is them, wholly and purely them. As such, it's not possible for a monster to lie about who they are. They can supress it, they can hide it, but they cannot lie.
Humans on the other hand have no such manifestation. Some can dance but it's not a sacred, integral part of your being. It's considered nothing more than a talent.
So if humans don't have dancing, how do they even know who they are? The answer is, they don't.
But some try. Some find themselves and try their damndest to protect that. They want to be themselves, wholly and purely. And it manifests into a pure soul. Being themself is who they are.
Hop wants to be like that one day. Maybe someone can show him how.
Outertale - Nova
Bravery
People often define bravery and courage as the ability to act even when you're scared. It's more than that. It's knowing that something is going to hurt and doing it anyway. It's trusting that you will be okay in the end.
It's being able to sit out and look at the stars, knowing there's a chance you'll never touch the ground again, yet cherishing the sight before you.
Being out in space for so long, he knows how terrifying the unknown can be. Out here, one wrong move and you're dead faster then you can blink.
Yet here humans are, doing stupid things anyway because they're curious. Curiosity is one hell of a drug and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't addicted.
He wants to know everything. He wants to know the science behind it all and the only way to do that is going out there and discovering it for himself.
And having someone by his side who'd go through hell and high water to discover it with him? Heh, he certainly can't complain about that.
Dusttale - Dust
Patience and Integrity
He likes these two better simply because the colour is so distinct compared to the others.
I headcanon Dust as colourblind due to his high LV. Don't ask me how that works, I just think it's neat.
As such, he sees red, green, yellow, and orange as similar/the same colours. Since he doesn't really like red anymore due to it reminding him so much of the player, any other colours that look similar are forever ruined.
Even if you told him that your soul is green, all he'd be able to see is the player. It'd take him a long time to trust you, and to repress his urge to kill you upon seeing your soul.
The only colours that are relatively safe are cyan, blue, and purple. I say relatively because while he can distinguish purple from red, the trait it represents reminds him of Determination.
Determination allows people to live on despite death, to push on and try again. Perseverance is the ability to push through despite the circumstances. They're too similar for Dust's comfort.
Integrity is fine though. It's a nice blue colour that he can't mistake for anything else and the trait itself is also something he quite likes. Staying true to yourself and standing by your principles is something he used to encourage.
He used to judge people on their principles so seeing someone he knows he can trust to not break them is a breath of fresh air.
Patience is probably the safest of the three. He easily mistakes cyan for white which remind him of monster souls. While he does have bad memories of seeing white souls, courtesy of wiping out the Underground thousands of times, he has faint memories of happy times with his brother. White has positive connotations to him. And if he were to meet a good human with a Patience soul, he can start to associate them with white as well.
Patience, he feels, is generally a good trait to have because he knows they won't mind if it takes years to get to know him. There's a chance they'll stick around because that's just what they do. They wait.
Horrortale - Axe
Kindness
Axe is a simple man. Decency was not something that was commonly practiced in the Underground so any form of politeness or general thoughtfulness makes him fold like a lawn chair.
Plus, Kindness is easier to manipulate than the other traits. It was the easiest way of doing what he needed to, whether that was to lure a human in, make them feel relaxed and catch them off-guard, or straight up toy with them until he's bored.
But when he doesn't need to do that anymore? When his brother doesn't need food or he doesn't need entertainment? When the Underground is safe on the surface with access to all the food and fun they could possibly want?
It makes him feel odd.
There are people out there that look at him, see the giant hole in his skull, the unnerving red eye, the bloodstained bones, the creepy grin, and still decide to hold out their hand and introduce themselves with the biggest smile on their face.
They tell him they thought of him the other day, they invite him to hang out with their friends, they pay for his food when they get take-out. And they do it not because they have to or because they want something from him.
They do it because they're kind.
He appreciates that more than they'll ever know.

He's a little shocked the first time you do it and just watches in mild concern as you nibble on him.When you explain it he is so pleased he's cute enough to trigger it in you. Will accept your nuzzles and bites like it's any other form of affection and might nuzzle back into you with a skeleton kiss.
Sans:
Oh wow he's a little surprised at first y'know he's just not used to being a chew toy. Definetly makes as many biting jokes as he can anything related to teeth(I'm not creative enough to come up with some bite me (hehe)). He'll nuzzle you back gently and just accept his fate when you attack him with love.
Underfell:
Edge:
He's a bit put off at first and thinks you're having an episode the very first time. Doesn't understand what's going on when you're knawing on his bones in affection. Concerned look and slight disgust over the saliva on him the first few times but he gets used to it and just accepts it with mild exasperation. The nuzzles he can deal with better and will nuzzle you back in skeleton kisses though not as aggressively.
Red:
Absolutely thinks you're fucking weird but you're his weirdo so he's okay with it. Does not get you at all when you're straight up chewing on him but he understands this is one of your ways of showing love so he's just taking it with a grin and a head pat. Gets the nuzzles and will aggressively nuzzle you back with skeleton kisses while he holds you down so you're forced to accept them.
Underswap:
Stretch:
Thinks its nice and loves this form of affection as much as any other kind. Will aggressively skeleton kiss you back. 100% willing to return the energy. Doesn't really think of himself as cute so when he does something that's clearly adorable he's always a little surprised when you basically affectionately attack him.
Blue:
Also has cuteness aggression so he understands you. Nuzzles and bites you back just as aggressively and with just as much love. Sometimes he'll "fight" back and gently push you away or pin you down so you can't do anything and then he'll cause a counter attack.
Horrortale
Willow:
His brother has the worst case of cuteness aggression out of all the boys I write for so he's used to this. Will return the nuzzles and let you bite away at his bones as he gently pets your head. He doesn't understand what you two find so cute about him but it's kind of nice to think he's cute enough to cause an aggressive response.
Axe:
Oh yeah he loves this. Just stares at you with his big ass eyelight as he purrs loudly while you nibble on him. Nuzzles into you affectionately and so hard he knocks you over sometimes, he doesn't stop when he does either just climbs on top of you and continues the love attack.

So first, I honestly don’t think that Sans is the type to initiate flirting, at least not without evidence that you like him. He wouldn’t really see the point in chatting someone up who doesn’t like him like that.
He might tell you a little joke, just to gauge your reaction. Something, something, you light this place up more than Grillby, idk something silly. As soon as you laugh and look away nervously, boom he’s in.
If you and Sans are already good friends, he’s a bit of a touchy flirt. Elbow jabs and shoulder bumps when he tells a dumb joke, or his hand grazing the small of your back as he leads you into the bar. It’s sort of subconscious for him— he just likes being close to you.
His flirty puns become more frequent, which he thinks is totally working, but honestly, you almost can’t tell the difference. I mean, Sans teases everyone. Your rational brain chalks it all up to jokes.
“hey, i lost my lips. can i borrow yours?”
“Haha, cus you’re a skeleton! Good one, Sans!”
You’re a little oblivious. But you do catch on eventually.
If you’re already dating, his flirting gets almost ridiculous. He tells you terrible pick-up lines, snorting at your expression as you cringe.
He compliments minute things to make you laugh, like the way your eyebrow hairs look today or your choice in shoelaces.
Which is why you get caught off guard when he gives you a real compliment, pressing his teeth against your cheek while he tells you how wonderful you look. He seems to always save this for when you’re least expecting it.
i think if they lived together (or, at least had a base together) they’d enjoy sleeping in cuddle piles
itd probably start with dream relaxing (something he never does) and ink turns up and plops down on top of him
dream would probably be terrified for his life for a moment but then begrudgingly let him stay there and listen to ink yap, then swap would eventually join in just because
i think theyd make this a regular thing, just nights hanging out in a cuddle pile, and itd probably go so late into the night of them just yapping to each other that itd turn into sleep piles
i think it would bring a lot of comfort to dream since he used to sleep next to nightmare as a kid and maybe he misses the warmth of having a body close to him
maybe swap would also enjoy sleeping close to people in recreation of sleeping close to his brother— i bet swap papyrus got nightmares like some people headcanon classic sans to, and swap sans probably slept close to comfort him
and well, maybe ink subconsciously enjoys having people close to him after having nothing at all
i think if you visited the (likely top secret) star sanses base there would be a 50/50 chance to find no one there (out fighting) or them all cuddled up in a big pile
Sans is on the aroace spectrum, but he’s also bi. His relationships aren’t really that romantic but he still loves the person deeply.
Sans doesn’t care much for kissing, He can kiss you if you want him to, just know it’s not heavily romantic. Sex is also off the table mostly, not only cause he’s a skeleton, but humans and monsters can’t reproduce (in my lore, do what u want), also cause he just doesn’t care for it.
Sans prefers soft domestic life kinda dating, ones where you go on picnics and do house chores together, and fight over silly things like not doing the dishes. He likes telling you stupid jokes and doing pranks. He just wants to be silly with someone mostly. Thats all he wants actually, just someone he can live with and be silly with and maybe cuddle with sometimes, who isn’t his brother.

؛࿔ silent walker. you genuinely can't hear his footsteps. he learned this when he was stalking his human from his universe; if he was too loud, his cover was blown and it was all shot to shit. he learned to walk on the outside of his shoes to dampen the sound of his steps

STAAAARES. he stares so much. he doesn't gaf if you see. he will be staring at you. unblinking. silent. he doesn't blink as often as the other sanses or ever fully close his eyes. if he does, one's open or he's just squinting. this pertains to sleeping too bro he sleeps with one eye open It's fucking terrifying

Undertale Sans jealousy headcanons
— So, personally, I don’t feel like Sans would be someone to get jealous easily. He obviously would trust you if he’s dating you and wouldn’t get skeptical that you’re trying to make him jealous or that you’re catching feelings for someone else, you’re a grown adult and have adult friends. You don’t get skeptical when he hangs out with Toriel alone, so why would he invade the wall of trust you guys have when you go out to hang out with your friends?
— However, while he isn’t easily insecure and is not a jealous lover, there are definitely certain predicaments where he might get a bit jealous, because, well, who wouldn’t?
— I’ve struggled a bit (i’ve rewritten this 4 times… so struggled.) to think of situations where Sans would be jealous. The one that keeps popping into my mind is the emotional vulnerability that comes after arguing. Sans is mature despite his childish humor and knows that when both of you are upset with each other it’s important to take some time to calm down before regrouping and either apologizing or finding a solution to the problem that caused the argument.
— But, when you’re both calming down, there’s the emotional vulnerability, and I feel like that might be the rarer situation where Sans would get jealous. Hearing you call and laugh with one of your non-mutual friends, or maybe you’re going out to shop or eat lunch with someone, and have a good time to help you regain your mental peace of mind. Nothing is wrong with that! He’s glad you have a healthy relationship with you’re friends and can rely on them to cheer you up when you’re upset with him.
— It’s just- He can’t help but feel the twinge of jealousy in his soul. You’re laughing with someone that’s not him, you’re upset with him! You two haven’t made up yet and he’s starting to feel like a wounded dog over here, it’s natural for him to be jealous.
— His behavior change isn’t too noticeable, but it’s enough for you to catch on since you see him every day.
— He’s struggling to make direct eye contact with you. His usually slouched posture is suddenly tense and stiff. His words aren’t mean, but you can tell that he’s a bit snippy.
‘i thought you were busy calling with your friend.’
‘don’t you have things to do right now?’
‘no thanks, i can do this by myself right now.’
— He’s dodgy, somehow his phalanges are sweaty, and he’s giving annoyed sighs when your phone keeps getting notifications from your friend texting you.
— The behavioral change doesn’t stick around for too long. Sans always kept everything to himself until the two of you became super close, and now it feels like he’s going to explode if he doesn’t tell you how he feels within a day.
— He straight-up tells you what is wrong, he’s blunt about it. He’s jealous, and while he doesn’t have a problem with you going to your friends for comfort and he’s glad that you have a life outside of your relationship with him, it makes him feel jealous when you snub him for a while after an argument and then go have fun with your friends. He understands that you aren’t ready to talk to him so fresh after a disagreement, but he doesn’t think it’s healthy for the two of you to just stay mad at each other for hours on end without atleast having a normal conversation about how you feel.
— I was super excited to write this, but when it actually came to typing it out, my mind sort of drew a blank, haha. I feel like undertale Sans is mature when it comes to being open with his feelings and discussing problems, so him being jealous would be a feeling that he’d either brush off or would talk to you about it when the two of you are alone. Here’s some short and easy bullet list headcanons instead of the paragraphs I normally do. These are things I think he’d do or say, but I didn’t know how to incorporate them well into my normal story-like headcanons.
~ He isn’t keen on physical touch when he’s jealous. A lot of people get that desire to hug tight onto their partner or flaunt them off to prove that nobody can take them, but Sans doesn’t handle jealousy well and shuts down for a bit. He doesn’t last long before explaining how he feels to you and communicating ways to avoid it that both of you agree on so that it doesn’t become a recurring problem.
~ Sans might cook something you like when he’s jealous or upset, almost a way to cast a fishing line and hook you back into talking to him. He’s not good at baking, but he can cook well and finds that talking while eating food is always a good way to keep things light and easy for conversation.
~ He doesn’t like talking to friends about your arguments or being jealous, he thinks it’s a subject that’s private and should stay between the two of you.
~ Half of the time when he does get jealous he usually sweeps the feeling aside with a ‘it’s not that deep’ and moves on. It rarely ever eats at him to the point that he has to talk to you about it to get it off his mind.
~ Not specifically relating to jealousy, but after any moment where he’s upset with you or you’re upset with him, he becomes very clingy when you’ve both calmed down. He likes the physical comfort and when his hands wrap around you in a hug they don't let go.
