“Where is she?”
“She…she didn’t make it.”
Is actually so chilling. Everything Pawbert says to Nick is deeply terrifying.
“But with snake bites you…go fast. You’ll see.”
“She’s gone Nick, just get it over with.”
“You’re done. Know when to quit.”
And finally,
“Leave it! You’re gonna kill us both. It’s not worth dying for.”
The ONLY thing Nick does through this narration is fight. The ONLY words he says are “Where is she?” “JUDY!” and “Agree to disagree.” That is the entirety of everything Nick had to say to Pawbert. At no point does he try to converse, talk him out of anything, question, trick, bargain, rationalize, nothing. And all Pawbert knows Nick as is That Fox Whose Entire Reason For Living Is Judy Hopps.
It’s chilling because Pawbert knows that telling Nick that Judy is dead is going to destroy him, and he believes that it’s enough to let him cave and give into death entirely. He sincerely believes that Nick’s entire purpose for self-preservation is to keep Judy alive and if she’s gone, he might as well be, too. And he’s not even entirely wrong. Pawbert’s final plea, the complete 180° turn, “it’s not worth dying for,” isn’t “keeping her alive isn’t worth dying for,” it’s “YOU CANNOT SAVE HER, STOP FIGHTING, YOU HAVE NO REASON TO LIVE, SHE IS DEAD.”
But Nick saw her lifeless body. He heard she was dead and he SAW she was gone. And all he could think was, “If there’s even a fraction of a chance she’ll be okay, I can die knowing I did everything I possibly could to protect her.” The pure desperation in his eyes as he fights for that pen, not even sure if it’ll work, but fighting to do EVERYTHING he POSSIBLY can to save her. Even if he’s already SEEN that she’s dead. Which he has.
And then suddenly he’s looking her in the eyes and crying.
The slow-mo and pacing make it hard to grasp how fast it all happened, but he saw her, DEAD, and within sixty seconds he thought he was dead too, and then suddenly he was staring her in the eyes and panting. And all he could hear in his head was
“She didn’t make it.”
“She’s gone, Nick.”
“Know when to quit.”
But she’s right there. Alive.
“It’s not worth dying for.”
As a matter of fact, she is.

one of the scenes that resonated the most with me, and most likely everyone else, was the phone call between jud and louise. beyond the fact that it’s impressive they could take a humorous scene and turn it painfully raw and gut-wrenching in less than a minute, it’s the perfect portrayal of choosing love over hate. jud and benoit are desperate to find out who ordered the equipment, so they become irritated when louise keeps talking, and talking, and talking. but the moment she asks jud, “will you pray for me?”, the entire mood changes.
the simple detail of will you pray for me instead of can you pray for me. jud is a priest—he is more than capable of saying a prayer for her mother.
it’s not about the notion of making the prayer, but the weight and power of the prayer itself; she doesn’t ask to know if god will forgive her, but if she is actually deserving of it. after seeing the corruption within wicks’ church and flock and how quick the public was to villainize jud, louise is a reminder that there is still true faith out there. her questioning of her worthiness—not of god—is rooted in the guilt that louise has for the way that she and her mother ended things. the desperation, loss, and almost fear in her voice when she asks. will you pray for me despite what i have done? am i able to be forgiven?
louise isn’t faithful because of god—the image of him, the one that’s been used and weaponized to spread ideologies, the fear of what happens if she does not meet his judgment.
she has faith because of what god represents—not as a person or figure, but as a way of discerning our own morality.
this is the religion that jud believed in from the beginning because he had the same experience. the guilt and horror of killing a man with his own hands, and the enlightenment of knowing that god does not hate him for what he did, but instead loves and forgives him. and jud realizes that, in this interaction with louise, he’s still fighting with his hands up in defense instead of opening his arms and his heart.
so, he does what he became a priest for—he says the prayer. he takes time to console her despite the urgency of the situation. he looks beyond his personal gain from the phone call and reminds her that she is not alone, extending the compassion and empathy that was given to him.
if evil and corruption is a rampant disease—if hurt people hurt people—then, surely, the cure can be spread just the same.
Shout out to
4 Savin' da day!!!!
This scene...
Noa mourning his dad was so heartbreaking to see. I was expecting him to cry like a human would. But him kneeling and curling up like a ball, The way his eyes shift thinking and taking it all in and silently shedding tears was so impactful. The silence was loud! 💯
Turns out Owen did some research on how Chimpanzees understand the concept of death and how they mourn.
and it made the scene more heartbreaking! I love that they're giving alot of thought into bringing Noa to life. Its just perfect. 👌
s2e4 scene breakdown part where I crashout even more over RadioStatic
Ok. So for those not in the know this is the second part of my initial reveiw of Hazbin Hotel s2e4 that I made separate cuz it was way too long. (Spoiler warning obviously)
guys.
GUYS.
GUYS. The final scene of this episode might be the best scene of this entire show. So after an entire day of parading Alastor around, showing everybody that he’s finally got him, Vox still can’t get enough and sits down to taunt him some more.
Alastor speaking through the radio while gagged was SUCH a sick move. And also when you think of it, that means that he could have spoken at any point through Vox’s little victory parade. But he didn’t, he was saving that just to make this moment hit harder for Vox.
OH MY GOD GUYS RADIOSATIC FLASHBACK GUYS WHAT!!!? It’s actually shocking how soft nice the both look here, Vox being all shy and genuinely happy to talk to/be around Alastor, and Al giving the cutest little smile at Vox’s impression of him. Those two seemed like genuinely good friends and it’s crazy
and then Al goes and fucks it all up with the most SAVAGE laughing fit I’ve ever seen, poor Vox actually looks so heartbroken and embarrassed (again im not used to this). No wonder he hates his guts this is absoulutely BRUTAL. Alastor probably doesn’t even realize it, he’s completely oblivious to Vox’s feelings for him and only sees this deal as for power. Also VINCENT!? His name is Vincent?
also I haven’t seen anyone point out Al doing the wheezing face meme that’s actually hilarious
Then they hit you with the song transition my GOD there’s SO MUCH I WANT TO SAY ABOUT THIS SONG I initially considered making its own post before I had to cut it but I'm just gonna try to cram it all in here.
First Vox’s “you think your little mockery is going to make me cry?” Brother you had a face of the most divine rage I've ever seen on when Al was talking about your past I think it’s fair to say you were a little upset.
then it kicks straight into a reprise of “Don’t you Forget” with Vox just tossing Alastor around with cables like they’re puppet strings, reminding Al that all his taunting is meaningless because at the end of the day, he won, and thats all that matters to him.
I also absolutely love the “I’m just like you exept I’m smarter, sharper, brighter, newer!” Line the delivery is so good
Alastor’s growl when he sings “you ain’t won yet” is so good Amir Talai is absolutely killing it in the singing department. In fact he has this whole episode, the amount of expression Alastor’s been portraying despite having such constricted facial expressions is super impressive. Also I love the little shimmy he does in his chair I can’t stop thinking about it
Alastor’s right, Vox IS obsssed with him. He literally left in the middle of doing-it with Val once Al called him. His measure for finally “making it” as an overlord is taking him down. He parades him around all day, humiliating and degrading him because he needs him to know that he won that badly. It’s not enough for Vox just to be powerful, he needs Alastor to know it.
And Vox going “so cute you think I care” BROTHER you put your plans for an angelic uprising on hold just to be gay for this guy for an entire episode, I think it’s fair to say you care a little
then it shifts AGAIN into this time a reprise of “once we get up there” where Christian Bole absoulUTELY SMASHES IT in the recording booth, the amount of spite and triumph he’s able to fit into Vox’s voice, you can FEEL the emotion oozing out of every word and its incredible.
AND THEN it comes in with a callback to Stayed Gone in the final line and that actually made me lose my marbles it was CRAZY. Whereas in that song Alastor was clearly the one in controll, now the tables have turned. Now Al is tied up and at the mercy of Vox. He’s done good on his promise to make Alastor “wish he’d stayed gone,” and he knows it.
also VALENTINO YOU MOTHERFUCKING LITTLE CUNT YOU RUINED THE MOMENT!!!
The sheer number of times Eddie is mentioned when Buck comes out to Maddie has been pointed out time and time again. Some take it as a sign that Buck is subconsciously in love with Eddie, some see it as foreshadowing for these two to be romantically involved in the future, while others simply think it's an Easter egg left in by writers as a nod to shippers.
The way I see it, there is a reason why Eddie keeps being brought up in this scene, but it's not what you think.
If you've rewatched this scene as much as I have, you'd remember that Buck actually isn't coming out to Maddie on purpose in this scene. He originally goes there to talk and ask for her advice, because he feels bad about the hot chicks incident when Eddie walked in on him and Tommy at the restaurant.
In fact, he fully intends to keep the identity of his date hidden. He can't even risk Chimney getting wind of it, in case he or Eddie puts two and two together and figures the whole thing out.
Maddie is always there to talk things out with her brother, but she would never turn down a chance to gossip.
He completely dodges Maddie's question and quickly changes the subject. He needs to tell Maddie the full story of his disastrous date, but he can only refer to Tommy as his date, or "this person". The more he does this, the higher the risk of slipping up, Maddie would likely ask more questions about this mysterious person as well, so Buck frames the whole narrative around the only person he can safely refer to: Eddie (and Marisol, but she isn't important in this story).
Maddie picks up on Buck's secrecy, now she really wants to know who this person is and why Buck refuses to reveal their identity. Buck again immediately shuts it down, and brings the topic back to Eddie.
While I'm sure Buck feels bad for lying to his best friend, especially when there's no reason to expect Eddie reacting with anything less than acceptance, when Buck starts actually talking about his behavior and what upsets him the most, it isn't really about Eddie. He's ashamed of himself for lying right in front of Tommy. In fact, he's so upset over Tommy cutting the date short and leaving him on the curb that he accidentally uses a gendered pronoun.
Maddie "I am 9-1-1" Han makes a career out of being a good and thorough listener, so of course she notices the pronoun. From this point on, the subject of the conversation shifts from Eddie to Buck's newly discovered sexuality, and later, Tommy.
Buck knows he goes to Maddie because he feels bad, but he still hasn't fully processed the fact that he's into men too and what it means to him. He's still calling himself an ally, a supporter of queer people, but he's confused as to why it doesn't seem to apply when it comes to himself. Maddie correctly points out that he's no longer just an ally, and the recency of his discovery might have been the cause of his strange and panicked behavior during the date.
This is the prime example of acting turning the same line into different meanings. The first "wow" seems to me like Maddie is finally connecting the dots. She practically raised her brother, it's not unlikely that she has previously witnessed Buck having boy problems. I feel like it's a "wow, everything makes so much sense now" wow. It looks like Buck takes a little offence at it and asks Maddie to clarify what she means by "wow". Maddie tells him it's more like a "wow, this is a nice surprise" wow.
Oh, boy is completely clueless. Maddie is just trying her best to keep up with Buck's increasingly oblivious statements.
Buck suddenly brings up Tommy, probably because he hasn't been able to stop thinking about him since the kiss. Apparently, he's so attracted to Tommy both physically and as a person, it makes him realize his interest in men, something no other has achieved thus far. Maddie recognizes the name her brother has been harping on for the past few weeks.
Poor Maddie must be so confused. First her brother and husband-to-be keep talking about how cool this pilot who saved everyone is, then he becomes Eddie's friend and Buck gets all jealous about it. Most recently, Maddie is horrified by Buck's action on the basketball court, because he only has a history of hurting himself to get someone's attention, not the target of his attention seeking. And now Buck has gone on a date with Tommy? So Maddie decides, one step at a time, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Buck initially tells Maddie about lying to his best friend and how he feels like a fraud, so she tackles (no pun intended) this part first.
If you come into this scene with preconceived notions, the word "feelings" being in proximity to the name Eddie may seem like to you that Maddie is pointing to "Buck's misplaced romantic feelings towards Eddie". But if you put these lines into context, Buck simply isn't sure of how he feels about his bisexuality in general. In fact, the only thing he's certain of in this entire conversation is his attraction to Tommy. Maddie also isn't bringing up Eddie out of the blue because she thinks her brother is secretly in love with his best friend. Again, Buck originally does want advice about lying to Eddie, albeit partly using his name to avoid revealing his date's identity, so Maddie gives it to him now, no need to read too much in between the lines, especially after the "wow" exchange.
Now that the Eddie stuff is out of the way, Maddie can comfortably gossip about Buck's new hot pilot crush. And Buck looks absolutely smitten at the mere mention of Tommy.
Eddie is undoubtedly a very important person in Buck's life, and it must be killing Buck inside for lying about something so important to his best friend. Though in this scene, Buck seems to be mostly using Eddie's name to circumvent the necessity of mentioning Tommy's name and to deflect any probing question about his identity. Once he accidently lets it slip that he was on a date with a guy, he pretty much drops the whole Eddie act entirely.
The entrance scene to Lady Danbury’s ball is one of my most favourite scenes from Season 3 because there’s so many little details, and interesting tidbits that show the dynamics between these characters beautifully.
But I feel like a lot of these small but important details are missed, simply because this scene is a really quick one. So, let me breakdown some of my personal favourite bits from this scene:
Starting with, Anthony entering, proudly with his Viscountess on his arm. His head is held high and there’s even a spring in step. He’s so freaking happy to be walking in with Kate!!
But, besides being Kate’s proud husband, he’s also Francesca’s worrisome big brother and so he turns around check on her and when he sees that she’s feeling apprehensive, he holds her hand and tucks it into the crook of his elbow to remind her that he’s right beside her, to support her
While, Anthony comforts Francesca, Kate keeps the attention off them by dealing with all the polite courtesies and by complimenting Lady Danbury’s skills as a hostess.
Which distracts Lady Danbury from Anthony and Francesca long enough to preen at her Ball and also gives Anthony another convenient reason to keep falling deeper in love with his wife
