Hi! I'm an ex-scientologist (if you want to source materials for your archiving I'm probably able to get you most things if you want a source) and I'm curious what kind of niche or weird Scientology stuff you've come across? Personally I have a proud collection of materials (I never got rid of them after leaving the Church) including some stuff that's even rare for Scientologists to find lolz.

Ooooh I love you I love you! That is so fascinating and I might be able to exploit you for some good info! Hmm... maybe that's not the best way to phrase it. 😅

So I don't know much but I have two things:

I know that allegedly there have been a few books that were exposes or otherwise critical of Scientology which the church sued to suppress. Some of the particularly shady tactics they used were mass amounts of frivolous lawsuits, meant as both a form of harassment (sometimes called "barratry") and also as a none-too-subtle threat to others that if they dared to write about this subject they too would face massive legal fees and stress from lawsuits (known as "libel chill"). Now, I haven't researched these titles yet because... idk I'm an easily-distracted idiot who would apparently rather spend my time researching "Mother/Daughter Panty Party" or whatever other unhinged pulp novel smut from the 70s. Yes that's a real book. My priorities are all messed up, there's something wrong with me 😓

The more directly relevant info is that on the very lowest level of that little iceberg chart of mine is "Excalibur," the original unpublished manuscript written by L. Ron Hubbard that appears to have been the sort of germ of the idea behind Scientology. The general theory of why it has been so strongly suppressed is that it was radically different from later Scientology beliefs, so if it became public it would be confirmation that this was all just made-up by Hubbard.

If you are anti-psych or even just mildly critical of the mental health industry, you will inevitably get compared to or just flat out called a Scientologist by people who love therapy. You know the classic “Oh, they also don't like psychiatrists so you guys are the same."

And it's just like… you guys know Scientologists don't hate psychiatry for any of the reasons anti-psych people do right?

Scientologists hate psychiatry because they think an alien dictator killed a bunch of aliens by throwing them into a volcano in Hawaii. They think the alien souls got parried down from alien heaven by Xenu so they had to possess cavemen. They think the alien cavemen ghost caused all mental illness.

Look, I'm just saying the average "dark empath who can spiritually sense the narcissist's black demon eyes" is more like a Scientologist than the average anti-psych person.

Leaving a Cult and Dealing with Religious Trauma - Knitting Cult Lady

Ironically, this video crossed my feed yesterday shortly after I opened the NY Mag Gaiman article. In it, she talks about how getting out of a cult is a first step, but is not the end of what you need to heal. That there's a Decade of Deconstruction necessary to fully be present in and enjoy the new life you build for yourself.

It dovetails with some issues swirling within the ex-Scientology community right now that I'm sure are about to collide with the parts of the NYMag article about Gaiman's roots in Scientology and the traumas he has failed to deal with appropriately.

I'm not super deep in the ex-Sci community, though YouTube likes to suggest certain videos to me because I watched Leah Remini's show. In general, it seems that many of the younger people who left the cult and have chosen to be public are constantly beefing with the elders who've been out for years or decades. Most of these younger folks have YouTube channels, and they're playing out all their personal dramas there in public in ways that are deeply unhealthy. Every time I see or read about the newest development, all I can think is: They're acting the way Scientology taught them to act while maybe not realizing it.

Based off of what Danielle says in the video, they have not fully deconstructed, and appear not to realize they need to do so. They think that because they are Out, they are fine.

Narrator: They are not fine.

It makes me wonder how little deconstruction from Scientology Gaiman did. Makes me wonder if he did any. Because the high level of compartmentalization that appears to be going on with him feels very close to what we've heard people who left Scientology talk about needing to do to survive, and how those still in the cult engage in it.

This isn't constrained to Scientology. In the reading and watching I've done, it's a part of any high control group/cult. Which is why getting out involves more than just not believing, anymore, and physically escaping. There must also be deconstruction so that you don't carry these destructive ways of existing and relating to people out into the world.

This is in no way any kind of excuse or apologetic. In the end, Gaiman is responsible for the choices he made. He had the money to get help, he had friends and family and community to lean on, and even if the tools weren't all there when he was a young man, they've been available and talked about for many a year.

He learned all the wrong lessons from Hubbard.

Of course no one would behave the way the Haters say Sophie and BC behave. Only in the “Septic bubble” does any of their nonsense make any “sense”.

In the real world, he got married, has 3 sons, talks proudly of his love and admiration for his wife and is a highly respected and successful actor and producer.

After the Cumberbatches had their third child (or was it after the second baby came along?) and were many years married, the Haters decided that they couldn’t sustain the “Sophie went rogue” story.

So Aeltri dreamed up the “DID diagnosis” and Gator went wholeheartedly along with her! The Birkin family was supposed to be the controlling agents in all of this. It involved “alters”, and mind control, and MKULTRA “triggers” that would conveniently come into play if ever BC said or acted lovingly with Sophie in public. That wasn’t REALLY him - that was his ALTER on the red carpet!

Of course, when some pointed out that the supposed “trauma” that is believed to be the source of DID, had to have occurred BEFORE BC even met any of the Birkins in school, Aeltri had to start spinning even more malicious and ridiculous yarns about Wanda abusing and “pimping” her beloved child and Freemasons involved with multi-generational vendettas, and Sophie being the linchpin in a satanic murdering cult, etc.

Usually the Haters try and keep things vague to give themselves SOME deniability, but they do tend to fuck up (especially nowadays).

One recent BIG mistake was saying Sophie had contracted TERTIARY SYPHILIS and was receiving palliative care. That morphed into CANCER, but really, that was YEARS ago and everybody can see she is healthy, busy working on her operas, being a mother and advocating for causes that she and BC care about. So… not deathly ill ! Nowadays Gator would rather not talk about THAT and acts like she NEVER said Sophie was dying!

There are lots of other examples of when the Hater narrative collapsed under its own weak foundations, but it would take too long to list them all.

I think the important thing to realise is, all these LIES, all these ACCUSATIONS, all these SLANDERS don’t bear close examination. If you do try to “fit” them together you quickly see THEY DON’T MAKE ANY SENSE!"

The word “scientiology” implies that is it the study of science, which is most certainly is not.  Therefore, I propose a new cult religious movement called “measurometry,” which is similarly tautological and has even less to do with what its name implies.

Measurometry is the religious sensation that’s sweeping the nation!  Come learn the secrets of the universe; everything bad that happens in the world can be attributed to the evil Lord Muxlok, King of the Sasquatches.  Do not let the fact that I am a fiction writer turn you away; the fact that this religion happens to coincide with the made up events of one of my stories is a coincidence.
