The gold lining the riverbeds was long gone, dried up following the heyday of dredging and panning, and the feldspar mine was sealed and sat abandoned since the 1960s. Kudzu crept across cracked sidewalks and empty homes, swallowing buildings all over town. The town square was mostly shuttered. Some people remained, but most had either moved on or vanished without a trace. Then, the government stepped in. In a sweeping initiative to provide sanctuary for non-human citizens, Stillwater became one of the first towns selected for the grant program Supernatural Urban Planning & Expansion (S.U.P.E): a national effort to turn crumbling towns into "blended communities." With federal funding, new infrastructure, and incentives for both humans and nonhumans, Stillwater was reborn. Roads are being repaired, old businesses are being revived alongside new endeavors, and fresh blood new people are coming to town. Now, it's called a miracle. A symbol of progress. Humans and non-humans living side by side, working and raising families together. On paper, it’s a utopia. In practice, it’s Stillwater.

is space travel hard on the body? Is there any reason someone might be awake for medical purposes???

Technology has developed in this area enough for space travel to have minor effects on the body. Most of the issues arise during take off, or in any turbulent conditions such as meteor showers, and the most common symptoms would be disorientation, motion sickness, and overall nausea.

Passengers should feel relatively unaffected for the majority of the voyage, particularly as the environment aboard the starship is so similar to the lives they knew of on Earth in many ways, including the simulated gravity, simulated sunlight, and the ample room and opportunities to stay physical and social.

There are totally reasons why someone might be awake for medical purposes, however! While the hypersleep technology suspends the hypersleep traveller biologically, there is a small chance that medical issues may arise - that medical issues might surpass the suspension of biology, that is. This is most commonly found in those with pre-existing health issues; it's not likely for someone with a clean bill of health to have a new medical issue present itself in this state.

It's extremely unlikely that this would happen, but some with pre-existing health issues may choose to spend the voyage outside of hypersleep just in case issues arise in the state. Some with pre-existing health issues might opt for hypersleep so that they don't deteriorate too badly before arriving on Mundus Meus, however!

It's up to personal preference, so feel free to go in any direction with your character! If you haven't already checked out the hypersleep page, I would suggest doing so - you can find it in the source link of this post - just to ensure you're properly informed if you're making character decisions based off of the technology!

what date/when will take off be?

This will be entirely dependent on when we open our doors for interactions! I want to start the group with the take off of the starship, and perhaps a little take off event, too! Whatever date we open will be the date that the starship begins its voyage.
