If you could create and OC and put it into campaign 4 as an npc or pc in a different party, what would it be? Spoilers for campaign 4 of course
Hello there! Since the very first episode I was thinking of making either a pc or npc that was doing shenanigans at the start of the campaign and continues their journey while the party does their. It's been interesting since we still know very little to this world, but it feels exciting to craft and edit a character as the world expands around us. I'm curious to see if anyone has been trying to do the same, and if so I would love to read what your working on, and would love to hear critiques on mine!
My little oc is a 93 year old human named Tobias, or Old Tobi to his friends(if he has any left that is) He grey up during the Shapers war and the rising tensions in his own family of people for and against them, every day and night screaming and yelling about the gods and whether or not they cared. Surrounded by this tension, maybe at the age of 7 or 8, he decides to go on a journey and ask them himself. it takes a while, and he should definitely have died a thousand times leading up to it, but eventually he succeeded and manages to have an audience with one (maybe the sun god one since he seems to be the shaper of humans, but im not entirely sure on that yet) and after that discussion becomes a cleric in the hopes of being a mediator between the two sides. Alas, he was just a level 1 cleric, and was far too little to hold back the tides. As the shapers continued to die one by one, Tobi became more and more desperate and frustrated, healing and protecting as many as he could, to defend the celestials as best he could, trying to reason to avoid calamity after calamity but the war dragged on... And as Sylandri died, his sanity finally snapped and he went mad with grief, and as wrathful as the angels, and now uses whatever tools he can find to... He doesn't even know now. All he knows is that the ones who killed the gods think they and theirs deserve a happy ending after killing the world, and he cannot abide that idea.
He winds up joined a group of pro-shapers at some point called the Retributors, who had a suicidal Hounds-and-Hunters strategy. They would lure feral angels away from pro-shaper territories into anti god ones, and if successful the surviving members would pincer attack the defenders as they desperately fought off the Angels and caused entire regions to be wiped out. Eventually the godkillers would manage to mobilize enough to put these vengeful monsters down, leaving two branches for my character.
If he winds up a pc in a party, they hes been imprisoned until recently, either escaping or allowed to go free on the same day as the execution to a world that's largely left the gods behind.
If he's an npc, I imagine he survives and escapes the Retributors downfall, becoming a level 12 death cleric/ necromancer multiclass as he slowly builds his army of undead over the course of 70ish years.
Either way, he is filled with an absolute loathing for the people and their descendants that rebelled against the shapers, hating the idea that they die at peace with their actions... The same goes for those who abandoned ship to a new religion and other powers(Looking at you, Halovars and Sundered Houses) Tho he might be okay with Tachonis, depends on their motivations.
There's just one problem in his mentally scarred, desperately needing therapy mind- he's not a Lich. Which means he still has a conscience, and when he sees a scared child or cute animal in the town hes slaughtering... he cant bring himself to kill them, and winds up doing a Despicable Me and bringing them along until he can drop them off somewhere like the mournvale monastary(Tho he has to book it out of there once he leaves them on their doorstep, on account of now being everything they despise and such) maybe a few choose to stick around, much to his grumpy confusion so that over time he has an entire caravan following him while he tries to be evil.
Over all, i wanted to make a character who had the grief and love of Vaelus and the wrath of the Halovars, all while knowing that there is very little he can do, and hating that he still cares about people.
sorry for the long tangent, thanks for reading if you got this far, let me know what you think!
