Hi, i saw that one of your favorite tropes was fever, so can you do Percy having a really bad fever and Jason tries to be a good bro but just makes things worst 😂
Things had been going so well. Maybe too well... Jason, Percy, and Nico had been sent on a quest to retrieve a valuable weapon one of the Gods had lost (surprise surprise) from a dangerous monster lair (another huge surprise). They’d found the lair, defeated the monsters, and retrieved the weapon in 5 days, half the amount of time they’d been given for the quest. All they had to do now was make it back to camp half blood and they’d be good to go.
But it never could’ve been that easy.
After obtaining the weapon they pooled their money for a motel room since they were all exhausted, hungry, and in need of a shower. At least that’s the reason Jason gave anyway.
Truth be told, Percy was looking rough. He had dark circles under his eyes and his face was more pale than Nico’s, which was really concerning. The fact that he didn’t argue when Jason suggested they stop for the night made him even more worried. Percy was the kind of guy who liked to power through things.
But he’d fallen behind them, trudging his feet and walking slowly. He was obviously dragging. Nico, who’d been staying back with Percy suddenly sped up and fell even with Jason.
“What in Hades is wrong with him?” Nico asked as soon as they heard the shower turn on.
“I think he’s sick,” Jason shrugged, scrubbing a hand down his face. He should’ve known something was going to happen. They’d gotten way too lucky this far.
“He looks bad,” Nico observed.
Jason nodded, “Hey Perce, you doing alright back there?” Jason called over his shoulder, glancing behind him.
“Uh not exactly,” Percy sighed, staring down at his feet.
“What’s going on?” Jason asked, slowing so Percy could catch up to them.
“I’m not feeling great honestly,” he shrugged.
“You’re not looking great either,” Nico joked.
“Thanks,” Percy said dryly, giving him a look.
Jason reached out to press the back of his hand to Percy’s forehead. He did feel warm, but Jason wasn’t sure if it was a normal amount or not. Probably not. Right? He was pale and shaky, sweat beading on his forehead despite the cool air. That happens when someone has a fever right?
“I think you’re sick. You might have a fever,” Jason said.
“Great,” he mumbled, rubbing his eyes. He looked so tired. It was a good thing they were stopping.
“You can have the first shower Percy,” Jason said as they walked into the room, claiming a bed. They’d gotten two beds, one for Nico (since he would be too uncomfortable about sharing) and one for Percy and Jason.
“Thanks man,” Percy mumbled, looking dead on his feet.
“Oh, hey, here take some of this first,” Jason said, digging some ambrosia out of his bag and handing it to Percy. Medicine would help right? And that’s basically what ambrosia was for demigods, kind of a cure all. Percy quickly ate the ambrosia then stumbled into the bathroom, looking like he was struggling to stay upright.
When the door opened about 10 minutes later both boys looked over to see Percy step out. He stopped, sagging against the door frame as he pushed his dripping hair out of his eyes.
“Percy?” Jason asked, sliding off the bed and walking toward him.
“J-Jason,” Percy stammered, reaching a hand out toward him. He collapsed when Jason was about two steps away. Jason lunged forward, barely catching Percy by the arm before he completely went down.
“Gods Perce,” he mumbled, hauling Percy up and pulling his arm around his own shoulders to prop him up enough that he could drag him over to the bed. With Percy pressed against his side Jason could feel the abnormal heat radiating off of him.
“Jeez Percy why didn’t you say something?” Nico muttered, his eyes dark.
“I-on’t feel s’good,” Percy moaned, head lolling to one side.
“Yeah I would imagine not, you just passed out cause your fever’s so high,” Jason sighed.
“What are we going to do?” Nico asked. “It took us 4 days to get here and he obviously isn’t in traveling condition.”
“Could you shadow travel back with him?” Jason asked.
“I could, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. He might fade into the darkness like this,” Nico shook his head.
“I don’t think I could fly that far with two people either,” Jason sighed.
“Hey. Don’t look at me. I’m not in charge of this quest,” Nico held up his hands when Jason looked at him for suggestions.
“Well neither am I,” Jason protested. He sighed again, mind racing. “Alright, how about you shadow travel to camp and bring help back. I’ll stay here with Percy,” Jason suggested.
“That could work. Let me just shower real quick and then I’ll go. I should be able to get Annabeth or somebody back here by morning,” he said, already heading toward the bathroom.
Once he was cleaned up he packed his things back into his bag. Jason was pacing nervously in front of the bed Percy was laying on. He hadn’t said anything or opened his eyes since Jason had laid him down there really but he kept groaning.
“He looks really bad,” Nico observed as he put on his backpack.
“Yeah. I don’t know what to do,” Jason said, sitting down at the edge of the bed, bouncing his leg nervously.
“Just don’t kill him overnight,” Nico deadpanned, causing Jason’s face to drain of all color, “Kidding,” Nico added quickly.
“It’ll be fine.” Nico said. And with that he was gone.
“Alright Jason, you’ve led armies and fought in wars and almost died tons of times, you can handle a fever,” he muttered to himself.
He got up and grabbed the empty bottle of water from his backpack, filling it up in the sink and bringing it over to Percy. Jason sat down at the edge of the bed next to him, gently shaking his shoulder.
“Percy? I need you to sit up for me and drink something. You’ve gotta stay hydrated,” he told him. Percy didn’t respond though, not even a groan this time. Okay, guess he was doing this the hard way.
He slid an arm under Percy’s shoulders, hauling him upright. Percy immediately slumped against Jason, seeming almost lifeless. Jason propped him up against his chest then held the bottle to his lips and tipped it back. Thankfully Percy’s subconscious knew to swallow, so only a little bit of water dripped down the side of his face.
Jason carefully lowered Percy down onto the bed, noticing that he somehow looked even more pale. He walked to the bathroom to grab a washcloth, wetting it with cool water, which he used to wipe the sweat off of Percy’s face before laying it across his forehead.
Percy only continued to get worse throughout the night. He was drenched in sweat and shivering, letting out pained groans and whines every couple minutes. Jason was too nervous to do anything but pace. Every once in a while he’d wet the cloth that he had draped over Percy’s eyes again or sit him up to force more water in him. Percy hardly even seemed conscious.
“Please hurry,” he mumbled, urging Nico and whoever he brought back to get there. He needed help.
Thankfully, just as the sun was coming up, Nico appeared with Annabeth, both of them looking pale and shaky from shadow traveling. They looked a whole lot better than Percy did though.
“Oh Gods Perce!” Annabeth cried, rushing to his side. She smoothed his damp hair out of his eyes, feeling his cheeks to test for fever.
“How did he get so bad?” she demanded, turning to look at Jason.
“I don’t know!” he said defensively. “It happened really fast. I didn’t know what to do so I’ve just been making him drink water and getting this cloth wet. Ambrosia didn’t even help,” he shrugged.
“You gave him ambrosia???” Annabeth cried.
“Yeah, of course, why are you yelling at me? Isn’t that what I was supposed to do?” Jason rushed out.
“What’s the reason why we can’t take too much ambrosia or nectar?” Annabeth asked, sighin.
“Cause it’ll burn us up- oh,” Jason stopped himself as he realized. It increases a person’s body temperature.
“Mmhmm,” Annabeth said, her lips pursed in anger. Jason took a couple of steps back. He was a little bit afraid of her. Everyone was it seemed like.
“Why didn’t you stop him?” she asked, turning on Nico.
“I didn’t think about it either,” he shrugged sheepishly, cheeks turning slightly red.
“You two are hopeless,” she huffed, digging around in her backpack. She pulled out a vial, squeezing a few drops out into Percy’s mouth.
“I’m so sorry Annabeth I didn’t know,” Jason said miserably, dropping his face down into his hands as he sat on the other side of the bed.
“This will bring his fever down to a level that the human part of his body can manage. He’ll fine in a couple of days,” she said, her voice softening as she looked at Percy, carding her fingers through his hair.
“Thank the Gods,” Jason sighed in relief.
“What do we do about the quest?” Nico asked.
“You two go, finish the quest. I’ll stay here with Percy until it’s safe for him to travel,” she instructed.
“Right. Thank you Annabeth. I’m really sorry,” Jason said, scrubbing a hand down his face nervously.
“Just remember this for next time Grace,” Annabeth said, but there was no malice in her voice now, she was too absorbed with taking care of Percy to be angry at them now.
