some people are saying they don’t agree with the fact that the writers (in most people’s opinions) decision of making eddie get stabbed in the chapel is throwaway so-
first of all, there is immense significance to eddie being stabbed in a chapel and in that how he deals with religion. i believe however that when most people say it’s, throwaway they don’t mean it’s insignificant. there’s so much we can interpret from the scene, like we all have, but i think they mean that the writers are not drawing as much on the scene as they should.
new mexico, was beautiful but for eddie there wasn’t much residual impact, in the same way that the stabbing doesn’t have it either thus far. people are mostly likely complaining because the writers have these ideas but do not spend enough time on them.
we all thought eddie would have some kind of revelation about almost dying AGAIN, but we’ve only had him complain about hospital food and say it wasn’t that big of a deal. now of course eddie will feel stuff regardless, but it really makes a big difference when you don’t get to see those feelings explicitly showed and drawn out. it is all throwaway in the sense that it is a good scene but where does it truly go? same with hen’s illness, she went through SO much but there is no residual impact which really diminishes her struggles
in the same way, eddie is deserving of a plot line that continually shows his struggles and how they impact him and continue to because then his growth is less clear and it feels like he is in a way deserving of these struggles because he will quite literally be fine and will never have to think about them again
