it’s sled season, baby!
i could be jerking 400# and my neighbors would complain about the noise but as soon as i start dragging the sled everyone comes out and waves and hi-5′s. it’s hilarious.
5x300m drags. 103#, 71, 48, 26(empty sled, full sprint), no sled.
I forgot how good this type of pain feels.
Taking the good with the bad
But this good is really good.
Yesterday's programming was to establish a 1 rep back squat, do the class WOD, and then a Lipson test.
I REALLY wanted a back squat PR. Did not happen. Wanted to go 210-225-235 and failed 235. Wah wah.
The class WOD was a 5x3 deadlift. Kept it light with my last working set at 225.
Then lucky seven - 7 min amrap of box jumps, burpees, and kbs. Definitely didn't do as well as I should have but after back squats my legs were done. But I was okay with it.
Then last but not least, Lipson test. That's a bodyweight sled drag of 400m for time. I. Was. Terrified. Seeing the weights/times everybody else was using/accomplishing I swore this was going to take me almost 15 minutes.
I did a 250# sled drag of 400m in 9:55.
and the angels saaaaaaaaaaaannnggggg.
It was hilarious though because two other girls did it with me and obviously I was last. But when I came across the 400 mark and Elena said "9:55" the look on my face was so happy that she thought I was nuts.
But yeah, I was overjoyed that it was sub-10. But I also felt like utter death. Calves on fiiiiiiire. But I'm really proud of myself for it so I will gladly take it.

Strongman Training Can Be Fun, Tough and VERY Rewarding!
What kind of training do you perform to stay in shape and get a better body?
We use mostly weight training at Stoy Fitness and The Healthy Gym, but we also incorporate Strongman Training.
Strongman Training is a very effective method for muscle building, fat loss and performance.
Training with heavy implements like sleds, farmers walks, tires and prowlers can supercharge your results for the following reasons:
1) Strength goes up quickly when pulling a sled or carrying heavy farmers walks. The faster you get stronger and use that strength for anaerobic activities, the faster you can get leaner.
2) Because Strongman training is a whole body workout, you can focus on specific body parts, but still get greater results than any isolation type training. For example, when clients or focussing on the muscles around their knees, they are able to get a good grip, rhomboid and lower trap workout!
2) Strongman does not take a lot of special equipment, just the right instruction to balance it off with your other training.
4) Those who suffer from knee or back problems can often use exercises like the Peterson Sled Drag, side sled drag and bent over sled drag to help rehab their injuries, WHILE having an intense workout and getting stronger!
At The Healthy Gym bootcamp, we start using strongman in our second phase of training, once participants have learned to activate "sleeping" muscles. None of these individuals had a background in strongman training, but find it fun, tough and rewarding.
After a little bit of improvement in structural balance (which normally takes 3-6 weeks) almost anybody can perform strongman exercises.
The best part is that after only a few sets and maybe 2 workouts at most, everybody will have improved their form enough to use an appreciable weight that will transfer into real life situations.
For this reason, strongman is as helpful as squatting, deadlifting and dipping if you are an athlete or weekend warrior.
