eddie’s “dating is like putting on a performance” doesn’t necessarily need to have gay (<- using as an umbrella term for mlm) subtext because the show’s already established what it’s like to be dating and putting on an act through chimney and tatiana. but because it’s specifically about eddie, it just does. like that’s a guy who’s definitely got a sexuality to address.

In order to be a transphobic parent, you must have to do so much lying.

"Mom, do all men have penises?"

"Most men have penises, but not all of them."

That's just a very simple, descriptive statement of the world! Even if you have the shittiest possible politics, answering otherwise would be a lie! Because there are some extremely normative, cis men out there who had a penis but no longer have one due to penile cancer or injuries or whatever. No one's definition of "man" actually includes only people who have penises.

You would have to lie.

"Mom, can I have boobs like you when I grow up?"

"Your body won't grow breasts on its own, but if you want to have breasts when you're a grown-up, you can go the doctor and they can help you grow some."

Because...he can. He can do that. Even if I were against it, he would be able to get hormones or implants on his own when he's an adult. That's simply a fact.

To say otherwise, I would have to lie.

And on, and on, and on, through a thousand childhood questions about bodies and gender and sex and pronouns and marriage and puberty and etc etc etc.

Enforcing hetero-cis-normativity must require, just, a constant bulwark of lies.
