Altar Guardian (Making of)

Some time ago, I posted about the North German practice of the Bannkorb ((Spell)Binding Hive), a beehive adorned with a human face, which is supposed to keep evil spirits and honey thieves from a group of beehives.

While researching, I came across a publication by Aladin Borioli, who took some stunning photos of extant examples in German museum collections. I cut some of these out from a brochure of his publishing house (spector books), which I plan to frame and hang in my flat.

I’ve been thinking a lot about binding practices and how in different spiritual practices figurines and statues guard holy and sacred places. Since I felt such a resonance with these hive-figures, I wanted to create a miniature Spellbinding Hive for my Altar Space.

I collected a whole bunch of dandelion stems, that had already gone to seed and hung them up to dry. Once they were nice and crispy, I began braiding them into one long braid and startet sewing it to itself.

I’m currently in the process of forming the basket-structure. The next step will be to form the face/mask and attach it to the finished miniature hive.

My Current WIP's!

Hi guys! It's been a while since I've done a roundup of all my WIP's, so I figured there's no time like the present!

Stumblin' In Book VII: Superhero Snapshots (Steve Rogers X Fem!Reader): As of me writing this post, I've uploaded 3 chapters of my rewrite of Brave New World and will continue to do so every Thursday.

Taking Care of Business (Din Djarin X Fem!Reader): I'm about halfway done writing the next chapter, which will center around the birth of Baby Djarin, and I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have it out before the movie premieres in May.

Tales From The SSR/Specs and the Flyboy: I'm halfway done writing a one-shot that takes place almost immediately after Chapter 19 of Specs and the Flyboy, with Jack freaking out over Specs' knife wound (I'm not even kidding, my boy has absolutely zero patience for anyone except Specs here and I'm living for it lol).

Spellbinding (Loki Odinson X Fem!Reader): I promise I haven't forgotten about Loki and the Cosmic Sorceress! I'm about 85% done writing a massive one-shot about Loki and (Y/N) meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Thanos-induced angst is genuinely heartbreaking.

Starlight In Your Eyes (Cobb Vanth X Fem!Reader): Yeah, the one-shot I originally planned for our favorite Marshal evolved into a multi-chapter series lol I'm still working on it and have no idea when it'll be ready to upload, so keep an eye on my Fanfiction Masterlist!

So yeah, that's pretty much it! I'm sorry that I haven't uploaded as much as I used to but I'm not gonna lie, the lack of engagement's really knocked my confidence in my writing down a few pegs. Whenever I post a new chapter of a fic, it sometimes feels like I'm just yelling into a void and I can't help but feel disappointed; I write for myself, but I post my writing because I'd love nothing more than to talk about my favorite fandoms with other fans. I know that fanfic culture's changed quite a bit over the years, but I'd be lying if I said that the lack of engagement doesn't bother me.

Anyways, enough of me ranting lol which stories or one-shots are you guys looking forward to? Let me know and don’t forget to give my fanfiction masterlist a like if you’re interested in reading any of these fics, I always update it after posting a new work! 💖

BNHA AU where Midoriya figures out Actual Magic, and is tasked with returning Actual Magic to the world in order to prevent a great catastrophe. Becoming a hero along the way is a nice bonus.

Series: Boku no Hero Academia AU Criteria: Izuku finds out magic is real, and somehow saves the world. AU title (optional): Spellbinding

Izuku Midoriya does not have a quirk, however he's always felt something burning around him, a tingling sensation of energy

It isn't until after his 14th birthday when the slime villain attacks him that he realizes he has a power that is not a quirk it is something rarer and much more powerful. Now he just has to explain to All Might why lightning struck him and the villain three times from clear blue skies.

He and his mom go to a quirk training range on her next day off, and find that he can… do much more than lightning. Fire, spears of ice, lightning, vines from the ground (really need to train them), and so many other effects. He channels the energy he's felt all his life and lets it do as it will, tinged green.

Finally, he found himself focusing on wanting to understand this strange power and have a friend to share it with. Suddenly he has a three foot tiny woman floating in front of his face saying that it was magic, and she was a familiar. Yeah, meet Prynn the faerie.

Oh by the way? Magic's at a critical juncture, and if it doesn't get used in a hurry, it will oversaturate the world, killing off all life or twisting and warping it into a perverted mockery of itself, not sure, but it's bad. No, you alone aren't enough Izuku, you will need to find others with the spark in them. You are the herald, the seeker and teacher of magic.

So All Might apparently has been looking for a replacement, and talks with nezu about it. Knowing his habit of tracking everything in the city, All Might asks about the boy he felt had the electrifying boy with green hair. Curiously, Nezu never met him, but he would like to from what he heard of the notes in the pages All Might autographed.
