Finished all the singles of the swedish helsinge lamb fleece. I spun the tog worsted straight from the roving pulled off the cards. The thel I hand carded into rolags and spun worsted. I suspect some tog did get mixed into the thel because both kinds of single are somewhat scratchy, but I guess that’s to be expected from a lamb with immature fleece fibers.. It’s going to be interesting seeing how both singles come out when plyed.

This was going to be a 50% fibercraft/50% politics blog until I moved in with my in-laws and basically stopped spinning.
But! Now that I’m moving I’ll have a studio of my own and will have the mental bandwidth to make things. I’ll finally get to use my tapestry loom and drumcarder and then I’ll be unstoppable.

Trying to get back in the habit of these regular updates again. (Note to self, don’t try to photograph white-ish yarn on a white-ish tablecloth. Derp.)
Still working on this project, which is the blend of Papillon dog fur and merino wool I’m spinning up for one of my knitting group ladies. (The dog was her heart dog, she saved a bunch of his fur before he passed, I’m spinning it up so she can make some kind of memento. Blended it on hand carders with wool so it was easier to spin and would hold together.) The big bottom-whorl spindle has the latest batch of plied yarn; the little Turk has what I thought was going to be the last batch of singles, but might end up being the second-to-last because I have more rolags left than I thought.
And oops, I fell down and bought another spindle at the last spinning guild meeting. Sorry not sorry. This is a Greensleeves Mrs. Marple’s Teacup, which is the cutest name ever everyone else go home. 0.8 oz, ebony with a walnut shaft, spins like a treat. Gonna pull out some of my little roving samples and see how fine of a yarn I can get on this thing. I wish I could get a short video or gif to show how the light plays off it - there’s some gorgeous chatoyancy in this wood.
Also, not pictured but spinning related: I backed the Electric Eel Nano on kickstarter last year and it’s looking like people might start receiving their Nanos in the next month or two! I can’t wait to have a tiny 3D-printed wheel to tote around and freak people out more than I do already. =D
Another bunch of singles completed on my hershy sticks with glassbead whorls. This was a gradient batt and I really love the vibrancy of the colours. Can’t wait to 3ply this.

Look at this pile of yarn! This is everything I spun or finished plying, either on my espinner or a spindle, during this years TDF and after my baby was born. Some of these are designed for projects & 3 skeins are being entered into the Royal 2026 competition.
Some miscellaneous handspun skeins, completed either on spindles or my e-spinner (electric wheel). The alpaca & alpaca/polwarth skeins are destined to be entered into the Royal 2025 under the spindle spun & lace weight categories respectively. Some of the other skeins are destined as gifts to crafting family & friends.

I’m trying to use up some leftover handspun & decided to make a spooky Halloween Snailbus. I’m using the giant snail amigurumi pattern by CraftyIntentions. I’ve got the foot base done and am halfway through the body top.
This was an interesting exercise. Both skeins are 100% yak with singles spindle spun supported at the same time. BUT left one was plyed end of last year using my usual method matching the ply twist to the singles twist on my plying drop. Meanwhile the right one was plyed recently on the drop except singles were released slower which allowed way more ply twist to build up - I think this resulted in a much nicer & plush yarn for this fibre.
So, since yak is uber expensive I decided to unply/re-ply the left skein & it turned out really nice!
Also, wow! Different weather lighting really drastically changes hiw the colour shows up huh?
